Default Is Norton Internet Security 2010 enough?

Hi,

I have just installed NIS 2010 on my XP box. I also have Spybot Search and
Destroy/Adaware/Malwarebytes installed as well. Is this overkill or is NIS
2010 enough to do the job of protecting my pc from spyware/adware/malware?

I'd keep all the programs you have. No single program is perfect at finding
ALL malware, especially spyware, and thus there is still a need for multiple
scanners. IMO you have a good assortment of tools. I've found the NIS
firewall to be quite easy to use, too. And effective of course. I also have
superantispyware.
NIS 2010 is good, provides good tools, but still mainly an AV
application.

There's no need to be concerned about malware ( BTW, the term used for
ALL malicious software which includes spy/adware, virus, trojan, worms,
etc ) as NIS will eventually bring XP to it's knees.
There is no Norton product for the Home User that is compatible with
Windows. None.

You just did a great job of showing your ignorance of the current state of
low real estate, low cpu needs applications. Many things have changed since
the dinosaurs roamed, you know. You're living in the dark ages and know
almost nothing about what you are claiming. NIS will not, and never has,
brought any of the several machines I've seen with it installed "to its
knees". it's also just as good on any windows platform it's designed for as
it is for XP. The included fiirewall and other bells and whistles are worth
their weight in gold and you'll see if you look that it's fast and clean.
A closed mind never lets anything in OR out, as evidenced by your refusal
to also offer a solution. You're what they call a real wart on the ass of
progress in some circles.

Twayne`

Norton anything for the Home User sucks. Is that easier for you to
understand, you brainless twit ? Learn how to spell and someone might
bother reading the incorrect drivel you *try* to post.

Consider your uneducated, half witted self PLONKED, kid.

Make sure you're using IE8 also. It has extra security features that help a
lot. If not, make sure whichever browser you use is updated. And just
practice common sense such as not opening suspicions attachments that you
didn't expect, not going to shady Web sites, using a non-admin account, etc.
I only use the free edition of Avira AntiVir on all my computers. I don't
get carried away with all these anti-malware products.

NIS is junk. But then, a lot of antivirus software falls into this category.
A general rule is that the more silly gimmicks (safe surf, firewalls,
phishing detectors etc) it installs the more likely it is to be a placebo
exercise than genuine security.

Malwarebytes is one of the better products these days.

Best way to keep your computer secure is:~

Install and use a better browser than IE.

Run as a limited user, or use DropMyRights/StripMyRights to run your browser.

Preferably, likewise for email.

Install only those browser plugins you actually need, and keep them updated.

Delete any preinstalled crapware or plugins which might be a security issue.

Use a NAT router for broadband, rather than a USB modem.

Even though Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is indeed one of the better
products, it should not be confused with antivirus scanners. MBAM is an
enhancement to your preferred AV program's general antimalware coverage.

A claim with nothing to back it up. It's far from junk anyway.

Malwarebytes is one of the better products these days.

Another claim with nothing to back it up. I don't see it as doing anymore
than spybot or several other mature programs.

But only if you iike its interface better or think something fits you
better. IE8 is an exellent implementation as is FireFox 3.6 stuff.

Really? For e-mail? It's how you boot the COMPUTER that determines what
rights you have or not, not E-mail or the browser or anything else. You CAN
set a lot of security settings in browser & mail client, but they have
nothing to do with turning you into a limited user or not. As in your other
responses it appears you are just too lazy to do anything but get to see
yourself in print. I don't see an "x-no archive.." around so you've also
posted it for all posterity to see.
Vagueness like this is the first tip off to a lazy poster with little
data to help anyone, IMO.

Please be more thorough and at least provide some verifiable source of
information when all you do is use a few buzzwords.
