Default 1gig of DDR Ram won't boot now XP pro

Okay, i've just recently gotten my 2 sticks of 512 pc2100
ddr ram. When I placed both stick's in and seated them
firmly down. I booted, it wet past post and then it came
to the next part where the window's xp loading appears.
Instead of seeing that all I saw was a blank screen.

Okay so i rebooted and tried safe mood, nope stick's during
the boot up process. I know the motherboard is seeing both
sticks cause the memory read out say's the total amount
that I placed in it. Yes my mother board supports 1gig of 2
sticks of pc2100 ddr ram. So I don't believe it's a
mainboard problem.

If I take out one stick it runs fine. I also have one
stick of 256. Which when i stick it in boot's with one
stick of 512 it works show 768 total. was wondering if this
is a problem. haven't seen it anywhere I know xp can handle
more then 1gig. :P Any help would be appeaciated.

XP is extremely picky about ram; not that the ram is bad, just that it's not
working properly with the motherboard or with the other ram that it's with.

If each stick works independently, then the sticks aren't compatible with
each other for some reason.

XP will handle up to 4gb or ram

I just built two new systems using the new 865PE chipset. I did a ton of research before purchasing the parts especially the RAM.
I suggest you check with your mobo manufacturer and with the newsgroups for your mobo. If there is not one specifically look at the
other NGs and check messages with your mobo chipset. Or check in alt.comp.hardware.pc.homebuilt.

Many times it comes down to NOT letting the BIOS use SPD to detect the memory, tweak the settings yourself. Search on how to do
this, don't just start changing the settings!

Other times folks have had to return (or eat) the memory for another brand. I put two sticks of Corsair CMX 512 DDR 433 RAM in my
system. Smokin!

Check your motherboard can take 1Gig in one stick, mine
will only take a max of 512mb in one stick.

Let me know how you go?

I had the same problem when installing 1gig of SDRAM in my system, what I
ended up trying was disabling the ACPI and then booting to safe mode.
Don't know if this will help you any but it's a thought.

Have you tried both 512 sticks individually to verify that they both work
individually. Had this same problems with 2 memory 512 and could not get
one to work with my computer come hell or high water. One worked
flawlessly. The chip that did not work under xp works fine on a windows 98
machine. If they both work individually then it may be a possiblity that
the timeing or density between the two chips do not function. Memory is
sometimes non working in combination with no explanation. If possible you
could have a friend try them in his or her computer for a more definite
solution. Hopfully you purchased them the same time in matched set.
