Wave sounds get muted without my doing anything
Wave sounds get muted without my doing anything
This problem is currently happening in XP-SP3, but iirc I've had it in 10 too. (I'm out of town so I can't check, plus it's not predictable anyhow.) For no apparent reason, I have no more sound, and after checking the volume setting and its mute box, and if the system knows about the USB speakers, and if the USB speakers are assigned to RadioMaximus or Skype, and looking everywhere, I bring up the mixer** and find that there is a check mark in the Mute box of the Wave section of the set of volume controls. How does the check mark get there? How can I stop this from happening? **(which is labeled Speaker in the left end of the Title bar. I get it by right clicking on the Speaker icon in the systray and choosing Open Volume Control) |

Just a guess. I've not had the Mute trigger *ever* all by itself. You have third-party software present which is doing this. On Win7, there is a service which is an audio endpoint dependency, which if the user removes the server (BlackViper style), your sound stops. That's the only other way that comes to mind, and since your Mute box is ticked, the resulting symptoms are not a surprise. Paul |
