eMail Client For Me

Other than
OE Just seems too outdated.
Outlook Fancy but I could never grow into it.
Live Mail It's Microsoft. Love it or hate it.
Opera I like the web browser and eMail is pretty good.

What other recommended free email clients are recommended.
I know that certain features and peccadilloes make an eMail client
liked or disliked so maybe also say what those features are.

Important to me: In addition can anyone identify which email clients
can download headers but not attachments until called for? I get
eMails with large attachments that take too long to download. I need
to select the eMail and download only those attachments that I
immediately need.

I want a mail client so I can be notified upon mail arrival so I do not
have to go to e.g. Hotmail or GMail etc to look.

My favorite is Opera Mail. It is Gmail-like in its approach to message
organization and display, so if you like Gmail you'll love Opera Mail.
It lacks a few things I want (notably it's contact management is pretty
basic), so I use Thunderbird. I'm not a Thunderbird fan, but it gets the
job done.

I don't think an email client exists for that. Thunderbird can be set to
just download headers but I'm not sure if those headers will indicate if
you have any attachments.

PopMan or PopTray will work in the background and check for email at
intervals that you set (mine checks every 10 minutes) and show a flag
in your notification tray when you have mail, which mail address
(hotmail, gmail, whatever) by color, and a numeral showing how many
unread mails you have. It will then open your reader to read your
mail if you ask it to. I like PopTray better but it doesn't work on
64 bit Windows.

As for eMail clients--Thunderbird is very good, flexible and updated
regularly. I use Seamonkey, which is like a clone of Thunderbird And
Firefox combined.

All these are free!

About attachments: Seamonkey (And no doubt Thunderbird) have a
setting for downloads. Mine is set to not download messages greater
than 1000 mb. It will show the first few lines of a larger email with
a box which says it did not download the entire message, and "Click
Here" to download the remainder of the message.

Mozilla Thunderbird

In Account Settings Disk Space you can set up TB to not download
e-mails larger than xxxxx KB. However, you can choose to download them
anyway if you want.

I don't know if attachments as such, but there's often a "number of
lines" header, which will give some idea.

I really like Thunderbird. OE was fine, but its functionality
disappeared in Windows 7. Thunderburd also gas a decent news reader.
