Access to downloaded files blocked
Hi Everyone,
I was hoping somebody can help me figure out how to resolve this issue. I have some files that were zipped up by a web application and downloaded to the local machine, and when I try to extract the files from the archive using the Windows Compressed file utility, I receive an error message that states "Windows has blocked access to these files to help protect your computer". I can view and extract the files using WinZip, but not the built-in utility. The files are safe, from a known source. I've checked the following: - Not using Outlook Express, but configured the setting "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". - The website creating the zip archive is in the Trusted Sites list. - Tried using the Sysinternals Streams utility to remove NTFS streams but it indicated there were none present. - I have tried using Mozilla Firefox and Opera to create and download the same zip archive, and each attempt with a different browser behaved the same once I had the archive on my system. - Currently the files (.htm and .html) are not listed as high risk or moderate risk files - When viewing the file properties, I do not have an "Unblock" option as mentioned by the help feature in the block message. - The file properties themselves do not show as having hard-coded path statements, - I have tried changing the owner and clearing all file attributes with no success I have not turned up anything in Google or Groups that has provided a resolution. Thanks in advance for your help. Edward Smith |

Access to downloaded files blocked
Hi,
Have you tried downloading and opening the files on another computer? This will narrow it down to your computer if the problem doesn't exist on other computers. What is the extension of these files you're trying to open? .exe? .vbs? .??? Is your computer completely free of virus/spyware/malware and XP up to date? Let us know. -- "There are no shortcuts to a job well done" "Edward Smith" wrote: Hi Everyone, I was hoping somebody can help me figure out how to resolve this issue. Access to downloaded files blocked
It turns out that the application that was doing the zipping was adding a
"\" before the file name. I had seen this when opening the archive with a zip app called 7-zip, but there was no indication of this going on when accessing with WinZip or the Windows XP utility. The app developers will be coding a fix. Thanks for your response! |
