Hell, in the computer world, another lifetime ago. I don't often run into dot matrix printers, aside from some very specific jobs. I see them often, usually in doctor's offices. Because we need carbon copies. Lord knows why. I've heard that before, but it doesn't make sense to me. It's easy, and in many cases just as fast, to print extra copies with a laser or ink-jet printer. Copies have to be carbons and hand-written. It's the law here. And if the last sheet is not readable, you have to do it again. Copies of what? Surely not everything. The law where? |

And if the last sheet is not readable, you have to do it again. Copies of what? Surely not everything. The law where? In Brazil. For instance, if I had to "attest" that someone was unfit for work, a copy to the justice department, one to welfare, one for the syndicate, one archived in the health ministry and the last one was mine, in case I was sued for issuing a false document. So I had to make sure the last one was legible, and a perfect replica of the others. Just in case. I was never sued. Narcotic prescriptions only needed 3 copies, lesser controlled drugs (including antibiotics and benzos) two. No idea if it's changed, I retired a while ago. Did you miss the 'very specific jobs'? No. I gave an example of one. So you missed it then. I have a large variety of clients I provide IT support for. Hence my comment 'very specific jobs'. On the other hand, I don't remember ever having to sign my name on a form printed on fanfold paper. Preprinted forms on fanfold. I can see that being used in medical offices. I also read of a case years ago where a company -- I can not remember the area -- had three computer and five printers. Each printer was loaded with a paticular form. Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko |
