Seamonkey on Win10 fails to send posts sometimes

On Win 7 or Win XP it never fails.
They show up in the Sent folder.

This is not a Seamonkey problem, it is a Win 10 problem.

I see no indication that the newsgroup is down as I can download new posts.

mozilla.support.* are *moderated* newsgroups. The problem is the very
low number of moderators (maybe on Ilias is there). You could be in a
different timezone than when the moderator is awake and has free time to
do his moderation duties. Takes 14 hours for my posts to show up there
(if Ilias isn't too lazy to read my verbose replies). With moderation,
submissions remain pending until the moderator approves them. So you
wait for the moderator to show up, hope that is before your pending
submission expires, and that you aren't on his/their ****list and he is
willing to read your submission to decide whether or not to approve it.
Moderation always incurs a delay - unless the server always accepts all
submissions and the moderator does subsequent cleanup to get rid of
unwanted articles (i.e., instead of approving before allowing access,
they instead approve all and then later eradicate the "bad" posts). The
Mozilla newsgroups use moderation via approval: your post won't show up
for anyone until the moderator approves its submission.

Mozilla operates their newsgroups through 2 interfaces: the ancient
e-mailing list and via NNTP. You mentioned "Seamonkey" which has a
combo e-mail and NNTP client so we have no idea how you submitted your
article to Mozilla's newsgroups. E-mail has no guaranteed delivery.
Even if your own SMTP server accepts your outbound e-mail, it may not be
able to deliver it. If it has an error in the first hop in the
delivery, you may get a returned error message from your own SMTP server
but that's not guaranteed. If the target (receiving) SMTP server
accepts the e-mail, the sending SMTP server will never get an error to
then tell you about it. Some receiving SMTP servers accept all e-mails
sent them *without* first checking if the recipient actually exists
there. That is, they accept all e-mails as though the recipient(s)
is(are) valid there. There will be no error sent from the receiving
SMTP to the sending SMTP during the e-mail session between them. That
means the only way to get notice that your e-mail was undeliverable is
*if* the receiving SMTP server finds it cannot deliver your e-mail to
the proposed recipient and it then sends back a separate error notice in
a new e-mail session from it to the sending SMTP server. However, since
the original e-mail session no longer exists, the only info left in the
received e-mail is what the sender claimed was their origin. So the
receiving e-mail server may end up sending the error notice to the wrong
sender (which is done deliberately by spam). Even if the receiving SMTP
server has the correct sender's e-mail address, again, there is no
guaranteed delivery to e-mail. So you may never know if your e-mailed
newsgroup message got there, there were no delivery issues, and if that
e-mail got approved by the moderator(s).

You did not mention how long you waited for your submission to appear
when polling their NNTP server or awaiting for an e-mail response if
using their mailing list interface. If you're on their whitelist, it
should show up within minutes. If not, you have to wait until the
moderator happens to get around to approving your submission.
Submitting an article does not mean it shows up for access. Only after
approval does the article show up. The moderator could be half a world
away in timezones from you and they probably have jobs so it could be 12
to 18 hours for posts to show up in moderated newsgroups. If they had
more moderators dispersed across the globe then biasing might get
levelled and and submissions wouldn't take so long to get approved.

For the mozilla.support.* newsgroups, I wait a full day before deciding
the moderator was absent in their duties or they decided to not approve
my submission. According to Mozilla's rules, the moderator is supposed
to either [trim your post] and update it to note why he thinks your post
is "bad" before approving their modified copy or move it into another
newsgroup (forget the name) as a means of notice regaridng disapproval.
The idea is that users can figure out why their posts are not showing
up. The moderator(s) is(are) not following Mozilla's rules. They
follow their own rules. When I notified a moderator that they were not
following Mozilla's rules, they got that web page removed (or it got
buried so I couldn't find it again).

When did you *submit* your article to the Seamonkey newsgroup?
How are you submitting (NNTP or e-mail)?
How long have you waited to see if your post show up?

I would say it is a PEBKAC. we get this quite often on this particular
newsgroup where people like Micky Mouse are around.

However, if he went to the news group at
mozilla.support.seamonkey -news.mozilla.org
it is not moderated.

A. The Mozilla 'Forums' list at http://www.mozilla.org/about/forums/
should indicate which newsgroups are moderated [^1].

In this case mozilla.support.seamonkey is _not_ shown as moderated
in the 'Forums' list.


B. The NNTP command LIST ACTIVE will tell you whether a newsgroup
is moderated [^2].

In this case LIST ACTIVE says (today) that the newsgroup
mozilla.support.seamonkey is _not_ moderated.

My submissions always show up immediately and that indicates to me that it is
not moderated.
