Duplicate COM numbers in Device Mgr
Under the Ports category I was baffled to find two entries with the same number.
COM1 COM3 COM3 This became apparent in one of my programs, where I must select just one. How can this arise? More important, how can I fix it please? Terry, East Grinstead, UK |

I had in the past deliberately changed COM numbers by using Device Manager, right-click on Ports (COM & LPT) Right-click on the target entry Properties, Port Settings Advanced enter new name. But I didn't’t do that for this issue as I thought there might be some underlying problem, which I might make worse. Instead last night I tediously successively uninstalled the many entries under USB Controllers then restarted the PC. Happily, so far I’ve had no re-occurrence of duplicates. FWIW this quirk arose while using a program called Arduino IDE, a tool used to flash micro-controller chips. Terry, East Grinstead, UK |

Even worse with Trumpet WinSock, etc. I also had to use shell accounts with SLIP and PPP (even emulators like free SLiRP and commercial TIA)!
