Default Curious I-Pad/Tv behavior

Yes, I know this is off topic. But for one message, I
chose not to search for a better group. Also, I know
that there are some very sharp folks around here!
My TV/Internet service is via cable. The signal
line comes into the house and immediately is split.
One output line goes to hard wired TV-sets around the
house. The other output line goes through the cable modem
to the dual-channel router for a wireless signal internet
signal.
But finally, here's the question. How is it that upstairs,
away from all that hardware, my wife gets both internet AND
TV cable input on her-I Pad.
