Default Placing Desktop Shortcut Icons

Every time I use the rt. click / create shortcut.... the icons are placed in
the same spot (upper left corner). Is there a way to choose where these
shortcut icons are placed on the desktop?

Thanks,

Oreally

Can't say for 7, but for XP and earlier, I'd ask have you got auto
arrange of icons turned on? IIRR 7 has more versatile control rather
than just on or off, but something similar. (In XP, with it turned
_off_, I'm pretty sure it places the new one where I right-click.)

More specifically from a web page.....rt click / create shortcut. I don't
seem to have any control over WHERE Win 7 places the shortcut icon!

Right click on your desktop view uncheck auto arrange icons

Please don't post a followup and email a private reply at once: if you
really must, at least say (at the top of both) that you're doing so.

Where would you like it to put it, if you're doing it from a web page as
you describe: and how would you tell it that information? (I'm assuming
you have tried, as I and "Jolly polly" suggested, ensuring that auto
arrange is turned off.)
