Questions on MSN Messenger and Outlook 2002

I am running 2 PC's using ICS for sharing Internet on 56k dial up
connection. PC1 has Windows XP Professional and Office XP, PC2 had Windows
XP Home and Outlook 2000 OEM. I have 4 users setup on each PC. I have free
hotmail account to sign into MSN Messenger.

Can I have MSN Messenger run at startup under each of the user accounts and
autosignin or is this going to cause problems since I have more than one
user?

On MSN Toolbar the popup blocker was checked when it was installed with MSN
Messenger 6.2. I unchecked it, but now am not sure. I have SP2 Security
Center set to all automatic settings which includes popup blocker. Does MSN
Toolbar popup blocker run in conjunction with the Security Center or is it
necessary to have only one or the other blocking popups? If necessary to
turn off one, which one?

Last question--does the Instant Messenger support box need to be unchecked
in Outlook 2002 if I do not have a paid hotmail or MSN email account? I did
uncheck it, but I am not sure.

Yes you can, and this shouldn't be a problem.

The toolbar should work fine with the popup blocker in Internet Explorer in SP2 (although
it's not required of course).

The instant messaging support in Outlook 2002 is for everyone, you do not need a paid MSN
account.

me to a download page for MSN Messenger--I already have MSN Messenger
installed??

When I installed MSN Messenger 6.2, I did not select the "Make this your
home page" button since it was not automatically selected--does this make a
difference? I was going to run the repair for Messenger and then select
this. Usually if I install MSN Messenger I get this run once screen for
Internet Explorer. Does MSN Messenger install a different version of
Internet Explorer? I usually like to leave Outlook running while on the
Internet as well so I can get my email in my POP3 account. Not sure if this
is a problem.

I really appreciate your help. I have not been able to get this running
correctly since I built this PC in January and it all seems to be related to
the Messenger programs and my settings somehow.

Hi Lori,

Outlook 2002 will only make use of Windows Messenger, not MSN Messenger (the links will be
out of date now so you can't go by that).

The make this your home page option will exactly what it says, nothing else. MSN Messenger
installs MSN Messenger and nothing else.

Last question--So if I am using MSN Messenger and I have turned off Windows
Messenger by unchecking all the boxes in Windows Messenger that I could find
so it does not keep popping up, then there is no purpose to having the
Instant Messaging box checked in Outlook since it will not work with MSN
Messenger?

I did notice that I only have the one entry listed under Manage Network
Passwords that says "Passport.Net\*(Passport). I never used Windows
Messenger to sign in and signed in the first time using MSN Messenger. It
almost seems that Windows is logging in with my POP3 account because if I go
to properties and try to update my MSN profile to my hotmail account, and
then try replying to the message from hotmail, I get an error that says
something like ...cgi/bin could not be found.

Do I need to retype my hotmail account username and password to get it
properly recognized?

How do I set up hotmail and my POP3 so I can leave Outlook running to access
my POP3 email, but also be signed into MSN Messenger to receive Instant
Messages or is this not possible. I did try contacting my ISP but the only
answer they gave me was to contact Microsoft because hotmail and Outlook are
their programs. I cannot afford to pay for support since I am recently
divorced and unable to work due to medical problems.

I would appreciate any info you can give me on how I need to set this
up--also have multiple users (kids) with their own log in screens setup on
each of my PC's.

The open .dbx files and email recovery has prompted you a path of the Outlook Express files' storage. And now save the damaged dbx files in the safe folder, they can be useful.
