Default Notifications in System Tray

Hi, I am using Windows XP SP2. I have 13 "You Have New Unopened Items"
notifications in my system tray and they are all hidden since I did
choose "Always Hide" option in the "Properties". However they do
stay in my System Tray even though I don't really see it unless I
click on the arrow to see all hidden items. But it's still very
annoying to have them there. I have gone through a lot of the posts on
this subject in various Windows XP forums and the only solution I can
find is to change the Registry which I do not want to do it as I do
not want to mess with the Registry. Is there any other way I can make
these notifications disappear? I have no idea what are they for as I
do not have any unopened emails, applications, or files. However I
did enable to show the Desktop option in my Toolbars. If I disable
it, will that help?

Any comments or advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

If you want to stop programs from loading on boot there are several ways to
accomplish it:
You should only use msconfig for troubleshooting problems, although it could be used
for stubborn programs until you find a way to disable them otherwise.
Click Start Run, type in: msconfig and hit enter.
Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the program you wish to disable.
If the program adds a new second entry on reboot, then there is probably a way in
the programs options that will disable it.

Right click on the programs icon in the systray to see if there is an option to
disable it from loading on boot.

Open the program/s in question and check their options to see if they have one to
disable it from loading on boot.

Remove any entries from the Startup folder that you do not want to load on boot.

Default Notifications in System Tray

Thank you, Brian for your advice.

I do realize the option of "msconfig" and to disable programs that I
do not want to start at boot-up. However, I do not think there's an
option for "Notifications" as it's not really a program. I clicked on
those notification items and there is no option to do anything else.
And when I double-click on the icon, it said "Microsoft Outlook: The
Operation Failed". Everyone of them said the same thing. I suspect
that might be for Outlook mails but I do not have any unopened emails
in my Outlook.

So what's next?

Thank you.

They are links to the actual application that are set to run at startup/boot. If
you can open the application check in it's options for "run when windows starts" or
similar and disable it, it will then no longer be in the notification area or running
on next boot.

I clicked on
those notification items and there is no option to do anything else.
And when I double-click on the icon, it said "Microsoft Outlook: The Operation
Failed". Everyone of them said the same thing. I suspect

Since you don't mention the MS Office/Outlook version, I used 2003 tosearch:
http://support.microsoft.com/search/...2&mode=a&adv=1

or if link wraps/breaks: http://tinyurl.com/26x442

You may want to post in an Office and/or Outlook ng where they may be more aware of
the issue.

Also without knowing any names of the other items I can't comment further on then,
as I don't know if they're legit apps (not in the legal sense) or if they were placed
there by something that may have compromised your machine.

Thank you.
