Default O.T. - Connection Problem:

These are my connections:

http://i64.tinypic.com/2i7agw3.jpg

I don't recall modifying Agent Ransack
and the icon should look like Dick Tracy
which is why I brought it to your attention.

I'll use the link (bookmarked) you provided
to download it.

Yes, the 8500 and 780 are set up on the Home Network,
versus Work or Public but still LAN. Should I change
it to Work to see if that helps?

http://i65.tinypic.com/2noyh1.jpg

Even so, the 780 doesn't have this conflict?

Should we try changing the register?

8500 has bee on for 4 days now,.....

In your first picture, you'd use the working Wifi item,
and check the menu in that one. You could try adjusting
the item which is to the right of the one in your picture.

*******

Now, on your Wifi's, one is virtual. Suggesting that
perhaps the Avast Sandbox had something to do with it ?

Do you run Windows Virtual PC (and perhaps WinXP Mode) ?
As that can add filter drivers to the network stack.

It's possible to have multiple hosting softwares, the
Sandbox could install a filter driver, and Windows
Virtual PC could install one. Generally, you don't
want two VM hosts running at the same time. (They
can be installed at the same time, but you wouldn't
want to try to get them to virtualize something
at the same time.)

*******

In the second picture, you should be using Home Network.

*******

http://www.wintips.org/teredo-tunnel...t-code-10-fix/

You could check the registry setting, see if a DisabledComponents
is present. If some software is flipping the registry setting
back, that would explain that it isn't a problem of tunnel.sys
and friends, but something the software on the computer
has decided to mess with.

http://www.wintips.org/wp-content/up...ge_thumb77.png

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Para meters
DisabledComponents DWORD 0x00

This article shows what all the allowed values are.

0x00 is fully enabled.

If the user finds 0xFF, changes it to 0x00, reboots, and
the value has gone back to 0xFF, then Windows didn't do that.
Something else did.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929852

And Teredo 6to4 will not run, unless a Firewall is enabled.
The Firewall provides protection (as it's possible
there is no NAT in the IPV6 path). To me, that's
the biggest issue with IPV6, no NAT.

I checked both and clicked configure
and said both were working normally.

No, I don't run Windows virtual PC/XP
Mode.

I am using the Home Network

I checked the registry setting:

Do you want me to change the setting
to 0?

Should I make a registry backup first?

I had an interesting failure.

I was using my Win7 setup on the test machine.
I was looking for a utility that you could use to test
on your setup. Microsoft has something called DirectAccess,
which is some kind of VPN thing. There is a testing tool
for DirectAccess. It claims to have tests
for IPV4 and IPV6.

Well, I thought a test couldn't possibly hurt my setup.
I ran the test, and as expected, the test didn't finish
(because the machine is not set up for DirectAccess, and
I was hoping the network tests would run anyway).

So today I boot the machine and... no network :-)
It's managed to cause a code 10 on the network driver :-)

So I had to download a newer driver for my NIC, and
after that, it started running again.

You see, this is one of the things I worry about, when
reproducing problems. Is the risk of screwing up my
setup. If I know there is a risk, I do a backup. However,
the program in this case, had the word "Test" at the top of
the dialog. There was no indication it did any "repairs" or
messed about.

*******

Your last picture looks interesting. The 0x8E value is
peculiar, and maybe eventually we'll find a culprit.

I don't think it's particularly risky, changing that setting.
The hardest part may be the permissions needed.

Mine doesn't even have that registry key (which is equivalent
to it being zero). So some software on your machine put the
key there, and stored the 0x8E value.

You can try changing the value to zero. Then, reboot and
see if it gets switched back to 0x8E.

While I can see discussion threads associated with the 0x8E value,
nobody comes right out and says "this tool did it", as to what
is making the change. But try setting it to zero, reboot, then
go back to Regedit (which should take you back to the registry
key), and verify whether it has changed on its own or not.

Interesting,.... but you see from just doing a test
how it screwed things up and how problems just
cropped out of nowhere when they shouldn't?

Exactly my case,...

Had this last night but I didn't do anything with
it since were in the midst of the connection problem
although I believe you said it was OK to download
the Quicktime portion.

OK, here's a new approach to "being the Boss".

Assuming the tool in question is in your Downloads folder,
you'd use something like this.

In an Administrator Command Prompt window:

cd /d C:\Users\username\Downloads

psexec -i -s cmd

When the second "cmd" opens, it will be SYSTEM.
Use the whoami command to verify this. Then

regedit

in that cmd window, to start regedit as SYSTEM.

Now, change the value.
Close Regedit.
Close the lower cmd.
Close the upper cmd.
Done.

Picture he

When you extract the PSTools.zip, you can also use
the system unzip capability, which will store the
set of tools in a folder called PSTools. You can copy
out the psexec.exe from that folder, and paste it into
the Downloads, to align with my example picture...

So your theory is that the Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit did this ?

Interesting that the two different accounts, end up
causing DisableComponents to have two different values.

not at all, just letting you know
what is happening.. I have no theories
why it's happening or what caused it.

To check,, I powered off the 8500 and
restarted it and it booted normally with
no issues except it took 15 minutes to
connect. So right back where we started.
Why is it taking so long to connect to
the Internet?

You need to View : Hidden Devices to get
a more complete picture.

https://s31.postimg.org/k7bdpqx8r/devmgmt.gif

I don't expect "something broken" to be hiding,
but it does give you a more complete list of
all that IPV6 stuff.

As long as the machine is working, and
the ISATAP adapters are not reproducing like
rabbits, you'll be fine.

Apparently, there is a "bug" available, where
the 6to4 adapter goes nuts and creates hundreds
of entries (of the hidden type). Just so you won't
consider what's in that picture to be all that
serious :-) The "cures" for that bug, aren't
exactly functionally neutral.

Some day, we'll find out what flipped your
DisableComponents entry, and put 0x8E in it...
That didn't happen by accident.

Paul
