What numbskull "stores" emails in the Deleted Items folder? Sheeesh! And joining a newsgroup should have NO effect on any mail folders AT ALL so I don't quite know what you did. |

As you have been told over and over and over, and you refuse to listen,
installing a newsgroup does *not dump the deleted items folder. Just because a so-called "tech" told you that doesn't make it so. There are many many people in this newsgroup who have been dealing with OE and MS products for years. They're the one's you need to be listening to. Otherwise, don't waste your time or ours by asking if you can't accept the answer. Tom "paula" wrote in message ... | Thank You will try..Installing a newsgroup dumps the deleted items folder! You have to MANUALLY set OE to empty the deleted items folder on exit, it does NOT do it by default, and that's the only "automated" function the deleted items has. |

Restore Points unsuccessful. thank you Paula in Stockton ............ I am in trouble! OK Paula, as everyone else has already said, OE does *not* dump anything just by subscribing to a newsgroup. Hopefully, all may not be lost. Follow these instructions carefully :- Open OE, go to toolsoptionsmaintenancestore folder and note the location that OE is storing the folders. Close OE. In Control Panelfolder optionsview, make sure there is a tick in "Show hidden files and folders". In Windows Explorer, nagivate to the place you noted down in step one. MOVE deleted items.dbx to a safe place on your PC, ideally the desktop. (OE will create a new deleted items folder when you next re-start it. But don't worry about this for the moment.) Download ($5) and install the following program. Use it on the deleted items folder that you moved to see if you can get your messages back. http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx (No guarantees, depending on your OE settings). Some useful maintenance tips. Do NOT store mail that you want to keep in any of the default mail folders of OE. Move them to folders created by you under Local Folders. Disable "compact in the background" and do this manually, frequently, whilst offline. Also, make regular backups of all your mail folders for just such an eventuality. Link to a program that will do this automatically and free for you. http://www.oehelp.com/oebackup/default.aspx -- Kath Adams MS MVP - Windows (IE/OE) |

1. Your tech is full of it. Fire him and spend your money with a tech who knows what he is talking about. 2. I have used OE and Outlook for years. Adding newsgroups does NOT delete anything. let me repeat that...adding newsgroups does NOT delete anything. 3. If you lost your husbands emails, it is because YOU did something to delete them. Besides, only an idiot would store his files in the deleted items folder. 4. Perhaps you are not quite ready to be using OE and outlook. I would sugest a visit to your local bookstore or library. There are many books out there written in simple language on how to use your computer and apps like OE and Outlook. I suggest you do some reading. Bobby "paula" wrote in message ... As many have told you...adding a newsgroup does NOT delete anything and does NOT empty the trash. When OE does housecleaning, it compresses your folders and moves old files to the deleted items folder, but does NOT delete the files from that folder. If your husband was silly enough to store his emails in the Deleted Items folder, and YOU emptied that folder, then the files are gone. A normal person would not store his emails in the deleted items folder. Bobby "paula" wrote in message ... OK I made a new folder for storing mail. And no I didn't delete anything..what to learn is that OE dumps the "deleted items folder" as part of its add newsgroup program..it does take out the trash an MS tech told me. Thank you for helping..and I got some fantastic news about going to windows\application data\Identities\Outlook Express folder and some other ideas as well under the responses... It does not do a clean install, or any kind of install. It merely adds a newsgroup. Not one mentioned it for just that reason, it doesn't happen. Therefore, you must have done something, like perhaps the click the very handy button to delete mail out of the deleted mail folder. If you want to store email, make a new folder with a name like, perhaps "Stored mail" to store it in. Why did you think they called it "Deleted items.dbx"? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. For the 84th time for the benefit of all who are reading this
thread...adding a group or account to OE DOES NOT empty the trash. Paula desperately wnats to blame MS on this, but it simply does not happen. I'd suggest you leave it alone before you delete some other file and then want to argue that it's MS fault because now it won't boot up after you dusted something off. Your 'tech' is wrong. I don't understand why you don't just LET IT GO and move on. "paula" wrote in message ... Everybody!
