Default Rude replies

As a relatively new subscriber to this newsgroup, I wish to express my
disgust that one or two people are replying to questions that have been posed
by persons who are in difficulties by writing insulting and useless replies
that do not help the person who posed the original queries. I myself am not
in any way an expert: but when I see people who hold themselves out to be
experts indulging in personal and scatological abuse of others, I say ENOUGH!

Recently a person who calls himself Kurtrail and another who is called David
Candy have, in my opinion, fallen below the standards that I believe should
apply to a zone that should be dedicated to the pursuit of constructive
excellence. This site should not be the ground for the dissemination of
political or self-aggrandizing opinions.

Nor have we been helped by the fact that it now appears that two different
people are posting using the handle "Kelly". There is only one Kelly, so
please will the spoofer get off the line. I assume that those who host this
site will take notice of my remarks and take steps to regulate matters so
that only constructive and not DE-structive messages are posted.

Welcome to Usenet !

This NG is tame to many non-Microsoft NGs.

As for a Kelly name. There is nothing that states you must use a unique handle. The word
"Kelly" can be a first name or a last name. Try a situation where three people in a NG call
themselves "Dave". If you are unsure, look at their headers to tell them apart.

Oh, I see, you don't know how to access News Groups and you are using the MS CDO Web front
end to the News Groups and you can't see headers. Too bad -- learn !

You would have been better just sticking to the rudeness issue. Telling
people they can't post using their own name is unlikely to be listened to.

Please, please, don't come over as arrogant. I am sure your family wouldn't
recognise the way you are responding to my letter of complaint. I don't
understand what you mean when you say "Welcome to newsnet". This zone is
supposed to be dedicated to being constructive. Do you think you have been
constructive in your response to me?

I do know how to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to handles.
I didn't need you to educate me. Being 70 years old doesn't make me an idiot.
Rather the opposite I should think. I still say that there should only one
"Kelly" as there is only one "Neil UK".

LOL! A senile pansy-ass! I love it!

Nothing worse that having some busy-body like you butting your nose in
what you could not and do not understand.

This isn't tea time at the bathhouse with the vicar. This is the
virtual wild west, and if you are as unarmed as you appear, then you
should cower in the corner with the womenfolk and watch house the
gunslingers fight it out, otherwise you'll get caught up in the

Here is some sage advise:

Lurk, before jumping it with both feet. No CDO poster is taken

Hey Kurt. Before you go criticizing people on their lack of knowledge or
expertise you better take a look at yourself first. I see tons of posts by
you asking questions that my 10 year old niece can answer. So I question
your level of knowledge and expertise. Then I see replies from you that are
rude just as Neil explains and to top it off you give the wrong answers or
suggestions. I'm not sure if you do this on purpose just to irritate the NG
or if it is simply becuase you lack the knowledge. I assume it is the latter
given your attitude.

Dear Mr K**tr**l

Is there some reason that you feel driven to write insulting and abusive
material? It must go back to an unhappy childhood, I suppose. But why don't
you cut out the "***" and write the words out in full English? I assume it
because you know that someone would cut out your reply. Cowardly!

I am not a pansy: details of my heterosexual background can be supplied
(though not on this site). But if all you can do is to smear those who object
to your remarks, then you have no place in what is called an Expert Zone for
the discussions of problems involving the resolutions of XP problems.

Because you promoted it in these very pages, I have seen your polemical
website. It may surprise you but I do not disagree with many of the points
you make on that site. What I do disagree with is your immediate snarling
attitude on this particular website. The words "Up" and "Grow" leap unbidden
to my lips.

Go and lie in a darkened room and keep taking the tablets.

Neil please don't come over as a naive child !

There is *much* you need to learn and I am not your teacher. Nor is anyone of the *many*
volunteers who spend their time helping those with Windows problems.

I didn't type "Welcome to newsnet", I wrote "Welcome to Usenet". Usenet is one of the
oldest Internet functions. It is older than http servers.

Back the Kelly name concept. You have to adapt to the system. The system will not adapt to
you. You also must be an adult and handle sarcasm and criticism.

Now to some facts...

This is not a "Zone". This is a Microsoft provided "News Group" to assist those with
problems with Windows XP.

Usenet is as inter-connected system of servers that share News Group hierarchies Microsoft
owns the hiearchy microsoft.*. Other notable hierarchies are; alt.* , alt.binaries.* ,
comp.*, rec.*, and the list goes on. There are tens of thousands of Usenet News Group. The
microsoft.* hierarchy is but a small portion of the entire User's Network (ergo, Usenet)
system.

The "proper" was to access News Groups is via a News Client. Is uses a network protocol
called Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP). Just like you access a web server via a
Universal Resource Locator (URL) in the form of http://web_site_address/ there is a URL for
News Servers and News Grups news://news_server_name/news_group_name

The URL for this News Group is;
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...dowsxp.general

If you were to click on the above URL it will take your default News Client to the Microsoft
News Server and this News Group. Most likely your default News Server is Outlook Express.

Microsoft also provides, for the newbie, a web browser front end to the Microsft News
Groups. It is for the intelectually challenged individual, those who don't know how to
"properly" access Usenet News Groups.

The following URL will take your default browser to this News Group.

http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...-us;newsgroups

Now when I said "Welcome to Usenet" it was a sarcastic reply to indicate that your
expectations were too high and you need to go with the flow.

I don't know what your original problem was but if you don't drop that attitude of yours you
will not be helped and the sharks will smell blood in the Usenet waters and you will be
eaten alive.
