Fax Modem hangs up before it can connect to the receiving fax mach
I'm using XP home and have a dialup fax modem. I've had good success sending
faxes but sometimes it appears that my modem won't keep trying to connect long enough for the receiving machine to answer. My modem seems to give up after the Fax Monitor shows 11 or 12 seconds have elapsed. Is there a way to change the length of time before my modem gives up and says that it can't get an answer? |

Try adding several commas after the phone number. Each comma will cause the
modem to wait 3 seconds or so before starting to listen to the far end. Thanks Hal. Four commas did the trick.

Fax Modem hangs up before it can connect to the receiving fax
OK sorry I am reading this looking to solve another (similar) problem. I get
the message that it detected and incoming fax but was unable to complete. Where would I put the commas...after which phone number? I can send faxes fine. Just cannot recieve. Where would I put the commas...after which phone number? I can send faxes fine. Just cannot recieve. The commas control delays in the number being dialled when sending a fax, they have no effect when receiving a fax. For more details see your modem AT command manual (look for the 'D' or 'dial' command). I'd suggest calling the modem manufacturers support to see whether this modem actual supports MS Fax. I'd also ensure the line is not being shared with any other devices (fax machine, phone, baby alarm, etc.), and check with your phone line provider that the line does not use VoIP. If none of that helps then try another modem. Regards Andrew Rinaldi Mainpine Developer Support USA +1 866 363 6680 | UK +44 1225 807 807 | www.mainpine.com |
