Default New Hardware Found Printer will not install

For some time on my notebook I get that new hardware found and its a
printer, make and model unknown, but can't install.

I have carefully followed the Microsoft article
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=298370. But I delete the registery
key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\L PTENUM as
directed and when I restart and go through the install as directed,
then it can't install because appears not to find the drivers or
identify the printer. When I try to direct install it to a printer, I
don't have a clue as to what the make and model number is of the
printer its trying to install so can't manually select the printer. It
just says Printer Can't be INstalled. And I am back where I began!

I have been fighting this problem for a year. I did suspect it might
have started when I was at my son's house and used his HP Photoprinter
P1000. But I downloaded the drivers for this from the HP site and
tried to install it but was a no go!

Can anyone offer any solution to this problem???

This will not totally solve your problem, without being at the machine it
would be hard. However it should stop your machine from displaying the
message each time you start it.

Once you have restarted and the message appears prompting you to install the
drivers, keep clicking on Cancel until the messages go away.

Then Click on Start Control Panel System Hardware Tab Device Manager

Under either the printers or Imaging title you should see an entry with a
yellow exclamation point. Right Click on this item and select Disable.

This will disable the device and Windows will no longer look for drivers for
this device.

You may have installed the wrong driver for your printer. Uninstall the
printer you have installed and have the hardware wizzard search for new
hardware. Allow xp to choose what driver to use. I have choosen the drivers
myself before and even though it was a xp driver windows still was looking at
the printer as another seperate printer with another driver.

Greg, I found it and disabled it. At first I had no yellow printers
and was looking at the tabs under view and here was one that said show
hidden devices, I enabled it, and like magic, was able to find the
printer with yellow !.

Have been pestered by this for two years so you are a hero! Thanks
