The second problem could be ads coming through the "messenger service" not to be confused with the Windows or MSN Messenger programs. Use a firewall to stop these intrusions. If still plagued by ads - scan the system with an anti-malware program such as AdAware (www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update the program before scanning the system. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

Please do not listen to TEEN342's advice. Do not turn off your messenger
service. This an important part of your Windows OS to notify you of problems or issues. It is like driving your car when the Oil light is on and putting a piece of black electical tape over it so you don't have to see it. Look into Sygate Personal Firewall or ZoneAlarm. They have free downloads if you don't want to use the built in Windows Firewall for SP2. Run Adware by Lavasoft and also get SpyBot Search and Destroy if you do not have these free downloads. This can help prevent some of the issues you are having. Also Read the info from the links provided by the more exprienced users that responded with good advice and legitimate links. Yes that is good advice. I work in the corporate world where we have that
enabled and started on our XP Pro boxes. I now understand this service better with your links. I did check on my home PC and it is disabled. Sorry to everyone with the misinfomation that I provided. I now remember we used to turn this off on our NT 4.0 PC's at work to stop bringing up the Printer notification box that the job had printed successfully or not. It's definitely different on a corporate network compared to a stand alone
