If the switch is causing issues then a restore to factory spec is not going
to do anything "albert hodkinson" wrote in message ... Thanks for trying Philo "philo" wrote in message ... "albert hodkinson" wrote in message ... Philo I have done 2 restores but still the same problem. I am not able to go further back with the restores, the system won't let me. Well I don't have any more ideas all I can tell you is that if you use your factory restore CD all the data on your machine will be over-written so be sure to back it up first |

I have been advised by my Laptop manufacturer that I should use the Windows XP recovery CD to reinstall the operating system. Could anyone please tell me if this is a straight forward process and any difficulties that I may incur. The problem is getting the Bluetooth to operate. Contrary to Philo's comment, using the recovery CD IS the way to reinstall the OS if you don't have a regular straight forward XP install disk. Insructions on doing so came with the computer when it was bought new, and are still available at the manufacturer's web site in almost all cases. It's not hard to do with the instructions. No one can really guide you thru a reinstall wihotu a lot more detail about your system; it varies from machine to machine. That is not however, likely to be the best way to fix your problem. For that, I would suggest reading here : How to Post a newsgroupquestion effectively:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q555375 and then repost your issues in this same thread with the bluetooth equipment. Just respond to your own first post and add the details. HTH, Twayne` |

I said that as a precaution to avoid something dangerous The factory recovery CD is a good way to lose your data They generally will format the drive and reinstall the OS... so if the OP had data that was not backed up... it would be gone. That said, some recovery CD's do have an option to perform a repair install... but from the ones I've seen that's not the usual situaltion. Finally, there must certainly be a better solution that reinstalling the OS |

Do you have to turn the Bluetooth on in the BIOS ? On Mon, 25 May 2009 15:20:03 +0200, "albert hodkinson" wrote: Thanks Philo I used to have bluetooth working ok. I could switch on the switch on the front of the laptop (Asus)and then use the Fn + F2 buttons to change between Bluetooth and or Wi Fi. The switch seems to have stopped working because the green light for the Wi Fi stays on, but after having said that when I switch off I do loose the Wi Fi signal. Regards the bluetooth this has stopped working. I have uninstalled the Toshiba bluetooth stack and I have tried to reinstall from the cd which came with the laptop. I am unable to reinstall because the driver will not load due to the bluetooth not being switched on. How can I switch the bluetooth on??? Any help would be appreciated. Tipical dumb, tech support advise...don't take it If you use the recovery CD all your data will be erased, so it's not a good idea. Not only that, the way to get Bluetooth working is not likely going to be solved by reinstalling your OS. If you post back with the *exact* problem you have, with all the details I am sure someone can give you pointers. Important to note if your Bluetooth ever worked or is this a new problem |

this also re assign the Fn+F2 buttons back to switching Bluetooth/Wi-Fi on or off? Albert "Jim" wrote in message ... Do you have to turn the Bluetooth on in the BIOS ?
