I think most Americans understand that there are some Americans with
the first name of Earl. For no other reason, in some cases, than from
watching the (then) popular television series "My name is Earl". (2005
to 2008)



I've never heard of that television series, but I was very familiar
with the bluegrass banjo player Earl Scruggs. And I used to have a
friend named Earl.
