Windows 8 key (license)
If someone bought the $39.99 windows 8 license during the first 30 days of Windows 8's release and has since lost the
key, is there a way to have it re-issued to them? There was a payment and probably an email address used etc, so there has or possibly be a record of it. I have a friend who has no intentions of writing down or recording anything and now wants to use that license. His Windows 7 machine died and he even lost/misplaced the windows 7 DVD's. He's hopeless but a nice guy. |

He's hopeless but a nice guy. I just did a simulation here, and I'm a scatter-brain too. I found the order. I had to try several email accounts until I found it. I think I have prints of the orders, but cannot find the prints. The order will have an order number. The fact that I used a particular email account for the order, that may be used to index things at Microsoft. It was paid for with a credit card, but I would be horrified if they still had the entire credit card number on file. So really, the order number in the confirmation email, is a key index. Anyway, the email message has this link in it. https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkid=263476 That gives https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...-phone-numbers You can try a country-specific phone number on that page, to reach an account representative. Even if the representative would agree to send the license key again, using the email address on file, that's better than nothing. If this individual frequently loses the password to email accounts, cannot work the recovery mechanism and so on, then chances are low of getting the key :-) AFAIK, all the email accounts I've created, still work. Because I just went through all of them :-) The seller of record on mine (in Canada) is arvato digital services, llc so the credit card bill may make note of that. Paul |
