And the term "Prime Minister" originated as a disparaging reference to the presidential ambitions of some politicians. It's still not, as far as I'm aware, an official designation or job description -- that, as someone else pointed out, is "First Lord of the Treasury". -- Steve Hayes http://www.khanya.org.za/stevesig.htm http://khanya.wordpress.com |

I reckon "First Lord of the Treasury" would be a better alternative title for the Chancellor of the Exchequer, given that the CotE is responsible for financial matters. |

No, because the Prime Minister appoints the Chancellor and ultimately decides financial matters. -- John Ritson --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com |

The Chancellor of the Exchequer is the bean counter in chief, and traces what happened to the beans in the past. The First Lord of the Treasury is the one who *decides* what is to happen to the beans in future (or "going forward" as the bean counters and hoi polloi like to say). -- Steve Hayes http://www.khanya.org.za/stevesig.htm http://khanya.wordpress.com |
