What's stupid about the ESR version? It allows programmers until
(March/April?) 2018 to switch from add-on to WebExtension!

It freeze bugs and all and has very little innovation. Plus
I can not see what my customer see in the general release
versions.

The new extension format is annoying, but I can still use most of
what I want on Fedora, which supports the latest versions.

The latest realease for Windows 10 is not compatible with
Down Them All which was the only reason to stay with FF.

In your opinion! :-)

Leechblock is another I use all the time which 57 is not
compatible with. I have gone back to 56.

But I've just gotten used to Chrome and maybe I've tweaked it enough to

once used it from the old Netscape days till about 5 years ago.

Do not use the latest Firefox, 57.

The latest version of FF 57 is every bit as functional as any in the past.

I downloaded it when it was released, and after a couple of days
learning the new version, and finding replacement addons for those that
no longer worked it is working just great. The only addon that I could
not do with out was Clippings but it has been ported to FF57, Added
UserChrome.css to the system, an cleaned out the garbage that had
collected in my previous version install.

The only thing I find distracting is the disappear on one tab addon no
longer works, and I have not found a theme I especially like, but those
will come. I believe there are a couple of line that could be put into
the UserChrome file, but I have not found them yet.

That may depend on what you want. There's a current
listing here of at least a few popular extensions and
their WebExtension (FF57 compatibility) status.

http://arewewebextensionsyet.com/

Notably, there's no distinction made between beta
and fully adapted. Not one is clearly marked as having
been fully, successfully converted.

Most of what I use seems to have gone missing. No
Script, Status-4-Evar, Classic Theme Restorer. Hide
Tab Bar with one Tab and Settings Sanity are not
even mentioned. Nor is Secret Agent, which I don't
think has made a signed version. (And I fully support
them in that. Forced signing is about control, not
security. It should be the choice of the end-user.)

The problem is actually worse than it seems, at
least for my usage. I'm using most extensions just
to fix things that Mozilla broke: The ability to not use
tabs, a visible status bar, settings for script, view
source on the main menu... Those were all indefensibly
broken and can only be fixed via extension. Now they've
broken the extensions. I can understand the logic of
limiting how deeply an extension can access the
program process, but breaking things has been the
only notable change I've seen with FF for years.
Bloat and breakage.

I'm not interested in shaving milliseconds off the time
it takes CBS News to load 7 videos that I don't want
to see, along with 12 ads and 7 trackers. I block all that
anyway, and I don't go to many mainstream corporate
sites like CBS News. (I don't think I've ever actually
seen CBS News website.)
I'm content with just a basic, functional browser that
allows me to choose functions and basic UI elements.
But the Mozillians just can't leave well enough alone. The
ridiculous speed of their update schedule alone demonstrates
that they no longer grasp the importance of stable,
dependable, consistent software. It's as though the company
has been taken over by teenage Linux geeks who only care
about playing with new beta functionality. Which is the
main reason that Linux on the deskktop is not successful:
Cars built by hobbyist greasemonkeys never get finished.

It should be anything with an internal source of heat, like animals,
running machinery, and pipes with warm/hot liquid in them. Moving air
carries heat away, so has a cooling effect on anything with a
temperature above ambient.

BTW, none of that "animals and humans" nonsense. We ARE animals (apes,
in particular). No amount of pretending otherwise makes any difference.

No, it's Firefox and their move to webextensions. Nothing to do with
Windows 10.

That makes us human animals, OK by me.
Yes I agree mostly anything with internal heat is affected by windchill.

pedantic

Wind chill it the *perceived* lower temperature on exposed flesh by the
accelerated cooling of moving air. Since a brass monkey or any other
inanimate object cannot perceive anything then wind chill is not applicable.

Not so. They deliberately changed firefox to exclude useful

reasons to use firefox.

With a new version everyday Mozzila still can't get it right.

Just for the record the author of Download Them All is working on a
WebExtension version, but has run into some technical delays.

https://www.downthemall.net/

If you need a replacement, you may wish to download Download-Star
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...-star/?src=api

The same is true for Leechblock.
http://www.proginosko.com/leechblock...th-firefox-57/

Ublock has been rewritten as WebExtension, I believe Adblock is working
on one. Both provide a similar function.

It should be remember the people who develop these extension may be
doing it in their spare time, and may not be able to meet their goals
due to other circumstances.

This information was all found with a simple search on Google.

PS: All software goes through revision processes to keep up to date
with current technology. If you think this update has caused problems,
you should have been involved with the update for Family Tree Maker.
The release of new version was months late, and to integrate the new
version into Ancestry, the older version interface with Ancestry was
turned off.

When the new version was released, previous version were fixed so they
no longer did the function for which they were bought ie the web access
in previous version was prevented.

Mozilla did not prevent previous version of FF from working, just
improved the software.
