505 Error
I often watch sports on my computer through the ESPN3 website. I haven't
done so since purchasing my laptop and tried for the first time a few minutes ago. As the video tries to load, I receive a 505 error. Whereas I could once watch these programs on my desktop (Win XP), why can I not view on my laptop (Win 8)? Any help appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks A W8 laptop is a rather complicated device. It would help if you could narrow down the problem causes from the hundreds of possibilities. |

505 Error
Sorry gents but I have no idea what I was supposed to do in order to
resolve this issue. I simply click on the event in ESPN3 I want to watch, it opens another window with the circle icon indicating downloading, then an error pops up on the video site indicating "There was an error loading the event" Error code 505. Then I did it again and received an error code of 314. I allow my computer to auto update with prompts of notification to me. Therefore, as far as I'm aware of, I'm up to date on the Flash version and all other crucial updates. Bottom line, I didn't make any attempts to resolve the problem since I have no idea where to begin or what the possible cause(s) can be. |

You can check he http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Just compare your version to the latest version. Be aware that if you run Firefox and Internet Explorer, you'll have to update twice, once for each browser. Chrome updates itself. How did you "allow" Flash to auto update? -- Alias The only real problems are avarice, anger and stupidity. |

Thanks Example of a 505 here. The error appears in the Flash player window, meaning it is possible the ESPN site loads a "player" of some sort, additional code, and that is what is throwing up the error. The URL here shows espn2, which isn't the same thing as espn3. http://oi47.tinypic.com/m9pzm9.jpg Browser = Google Chrome espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/channel/espn2/size/condensed "Watch EPSN --- logo text There was an error loading the event. Error Code: 505 " So this isn't even a Flash error as such. It is the player code, which had a handshaking problem of some sort, and throws up an error. Like, you're not allowed to stream the content, some requirement isn't met, the EPSN website sends a flash image with that error message in it, and the local flash player displays the bad news. ******* I found that example here. http://support.unblock-us.com/custom...-3-not-working "Apr 21, 2013 04:46PM EDT What has happened is that ESPN have changed the way that you can view their service." Apparently, it may even have something to do with the ISP used ??? http://espn.go.com/watchespn/affList?device=videosub More trivia, on their FAQ page. Note - may require a "trivia decoder" to figure it all out. http://espn.go.com/watchespn/faq "Are you patting your head ? Are you rubbing your stomach ? Then, we may just allow you to look at our content. If it's a Tuesday, there is a full moon, we may slow down the download rate just to annoy you." HTH, Paul |

Latest version is 11.7.700.202 for Firefox, which is what I have. I don't use IE or Chrome. I assume the auto update was something I checked when installing it. I often receive notification of updates for all Adobe software on my PC. I recall receiving update notices for Flash. Since I have never manually updated it and I'm of the latest version, I can continue my assumption of auto update. |

HTH, Paul ESPN3 is accessible if you are a customer of one of the supporting ISPs. I decided to try on my desktop and made a discovery. I manually control my cookies, which prompts me to allow or deny when visiting a site (which is why I like Firefox). I often deny except in cases of forums/message boards and other sites requiring to keep them. I didn't realize I denied the cookies for ESPN3 and thus, wouldn't allow me in. Therefore, I removed and accepted and now I'm in. Thank you both for your help. You made me do and think of possible conflicts. |
