Windows update strikes again
As some of you may remember, I have had no luck in installing 1803. Well,
for the last week or so Update has been telling me it has an update to install. When I look, it has 1803 'awaiting restart'. So tonight I do the restart. It cycles through three or four really fast boot cycles, then comes up normally. I go to look, and winver says I am still at 1709. Update history shows the last install at 10/19, and says that 1803 is still 'awaiting restart'. I'm thinking that I need to find that procedure to clean out the update folder, then wait for Microsoft to download a hopefully clean copy of 1809. Linux is starting to look better and better. I'm thinking the LTS version of Mint 19. |

Periodically I have to go in and reset it, but it takes less time than repeatedly letting it try to install, fail, and the I have to go in and clean up things manually. -- 2018: The year we learn to play the great game of Euchre |

Regardless of what some people will say, Linux is indeed a pretty decent operating system and you'll find happiness there if you're not looking to use some third-party software that is only available in Windows. Just make sure that all of your hardware works properly first when you try the operating system from a USB key before installing. -- SilverSlimer |

that procedure to clean out the update folder, then wait for Microsoft to download a hopefully clean copy of 1809. Linux is starting to look better and better. I'm thinking the LTS version of Mint 19. I have always found Debian stable to be - well - stable. I've used nothing else for 5 or 6 years now and never had an issue. |

None of us are doing anything of that sort. The OP and others have changed their systems beyond recognition by deleting important files because trolls and pedos told them to do it on these newsgroups to stop Microsoft spying on them. Microsoft staff, who are mostly millionaires, have lots of time to spend spying on people like the OP!!!. To add insult to injury we have idiots like you spreading fake news on these newsgroups and the people like Tim with low intelligence will believe everything when you tell him. In fact they could even kill their mother if somebody tells them that she is a witch. Frankly, I agree that people of low intelligence like you and the OP should just install whatever crap they think is better for them and stop coming to this particular newsgroup. We have enough trolls to deal with so we would appreciate if they all move to Linux newsgroups. -- With over 950 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |

Hardware vendors can't afford the design and SUPPORT costs for drivers and apps to fully exploit ALL the features/capabilities of their hardware devices on EVERY distro in existence. Often, with linux, you get whatever some individual guru needed to get HIS job done with little concern for what he doesn't think he needs. Guru 1's version gives you features A and C. Guru 2's version gives you features F and J. Need A and J? Good luck with that. Need some support? Lucky for you, there's lots of input on how to fix a different version of the app on a different version of a different distro...if only that info were disclosed. And the badder news is that windows is headed toward the same chaos that exists in the linux sea of distros. Windows 7 is the life preserver, but it's leaking and we'll eventually all drown. Are we having fun yet? |

Actually, I want to add that Windows does a better job recognizing RAIDs than Linux does (at least on this laptop), has a functional sleep/wake feature (unlike Linux on every laptop I've used), allows you to change your screen's brightness if you use the NVIDIA driver and provides a more compatible/user-friendly encryption process if you have Pro or higher. -- SilverSlimer |

Windows update strikes again
Johnny wrote:
As a former Windows user, I would never go back, and I can't understand why people keep fighting that piece of **** operating system when they don't have to. First, there's no fighting, Windows has worked perfectly for me from 3.0 through Windows 10. Trouble free, never saw a BSOD or had a crash except once when there was a power failure. Even that restored quickly. I suspect my success is due in part to my tendency to RTFM which includes this newsgroup. Second, I spent many frustrating hours, weeks, days trying to get Linux to work for me, it won't. My ONLY reason for owning a PC is financial and the job is made simple by use of Intuit products, TurboTax and Quicken which, it seems, will NOT run properly on Linux. So, two reasons to stick with Windows, it works perfectly with much less learning than Linux and Linux is not capable of doing what I need a computer to do. Sorry you couldn't figure it out and even sorrier you felt the need to troll this forum. -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://twovoyagers.com/improve-usenet.org/ |
