Can anyone tell me why I have Windows Messenger and MSN messenger on my
computer? They are the same are they not? Can I uninstall one of them
instead of having both? Thanks for any input!

yes you can uninstall either. if you uninstall msn messenger you will lose a
lot of the bells and whistles that it has as compared to windows messenger.
i personally dislike the bells and whistles, and therefore do not use msn
messenger (i especially hate the advertisements)

I questioned this myself..

I think windows messenger is the base for MSN messenger.. if you remove
windows messenger, msn messenger will not run. Just ignore it, and make
sure MSN Messenger is in your startup, not windows messenger

Nope, they are not the same.

Install Windows Messenger 5.1 (install can be found on Microsoft's Downloads
site), then launch. Go to Tools,Options, Preferences tab and take off check
mark next to "Run Windows Messenger when Windows Starts". OK and exit
Windows Messenger. Now Windows Messenger will no longer automatically load.

You can uninstall it, but if you do you will lose access to a few features
that is shared with MSN Messenger.
