Default Problem receiveing attachments with Windows Messenger 5.1

Whenever someone (who is in my Messenger contacts) tries to send me a file I
receive an error like this:

"The transfer of the file "100_4090.jpg" has been blocked because it could
be unsafe."

This applies to any file type, although the main ones I have tried to
receive are JPG. The senders are using MSN Messenger 7.x, and I am using
Windows Messenger 5.1.0701.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem and how to allow these
attachments?

I am using Windows XP Pro SP2 (a clean installation about a week ago) with
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.1 and the Windows Firewall. I am on ADSL
behind a NAT router.

I don't want to install MSN Messenger because I don't like all the
advertising etc that goes with it.

Thanks for any useful suggestions!
Paul.
