Problems Copying Emoticons/Animated GIFs from Chats in Messenger

I was messenging with someone in Brazil (I'm in US) and neither of us were
able to copy the others animated GIFs/emoticons. I haven't had that problem
before so I'm wondering if it is an international problem. Her native
language was Portugese and when I tried to copy/paste an emoticon/GIF it
would just paste the Portugese keyword she was using for the emoticon/GIF.
Anyone know how to copy emoticons/animated GIFs in an international MS
Messenger chat window?

The problem is actually her locale. In some locales, this feature has been disabled.

Thanks for the quick response, Jonathan! She said that she could copy them
from her friends there in Brazil, but not from me. So does that mean that
feature only works within her locale (Brazil)?
