Hi Cindy,

Leave that folder alone. It contains your backup system files, likely =
placed on the hard drive so that you can access them if needed by your =
system makers recovery software. If you need to replace a system file, =
or if one is needed to be added to the system, you will need that =
folder, as the files in the recovery software are not likely to be =
directly accessible otherwise. SP1 does not replace ALL system files, =
just certain ones.

Thanks Rick - much appreciated - If I have my original XP CD, can I delete
this folder safely then re-download the SP??

Alternatively, can I burn the c:\I386 onto a CD?

Altrenative 2, have I, in some way, mis-applied some service pack to create
this directory? I did another check on Technet but figured that I followed
everything correctly.

Kind regards to you nick for your very helpful advice.

Cindy.

Default I386 Folder - Safe to Delete?

cindy,

your question interested me because i can't even find the said folder on my
computer.

however, i suggest that you don't mess with the i386 folder. windows is
kinda strict and stubborn about its folders and their structure.

regards,
dennis

C:\ServicePackFiles\i386 is were SP1 stores the drivers. That is were =
Windows=20
stores the drivers so you don't need the CD when performing a repair or=20
System File Check. It would not be wise to delete this directory.

Hi Cindy,

As Nicholas stated, it is unwise to delete the folder, however if you =
burn it to CD for safekeeping and later use, yes it is ok. The folder is =
not accessed in normal operation, just in recovery operations.
