Will have to keep a close eye on this. If it's just a case of MS taking in-house a third party dependency it's increasingly reliant on, then that's not a problem. If they're wanting to monetise or change how it works for academic or open source projects, then that's a huge problem. However, it's very easy to move and places like bitbucket and gitlab will benefit. |

My feeling is that they're going to embed it more in their tool chain for MS developers and then try to drive adoption for other paid services like azure. Thereby leaving the core GitHub experience the same. |

And then some... https://twitter.com/gitlab/status/10...170547200?s=21 These must all be small or insignificant repositories. Anything linked to major projects would need to manage it's migration away from GitHub on more than a whim from one day to the next. |

I suggest others do the same, especially with large open source projects. For a start the process won't happen until later in the year, and secondly what are you concerned about? I'm currently looking for self hosted solutions over just a different centralized service. Gitlab may be an option. |

Find any virtual private server and install GitLab on it. Adjust your DNS accordingly. |

He should at least explain that any self-respecting coder who values his work and doesn't want to give it away to Microsoft for free shouldn't keep using Github and should make sure that the code is secure elsewhere. They can barely afford food, mate. |
