Default Win 10 in S mode

If you buy a pc with Win10 in S mode can you get it out of S mode, maybe
by paying a fee to upgrade out of S mode?

TIA. Bill S.

In the laconic words of the never purposefully helpful, nospam, "yes".
o Or, "it's free"

Instead of leaving it at that pat answer, since we're purposefully helpful
on this newsgroup, here's a reference to help guide you in that conversion:

o Is there freeware extent to convert Win10S to Win10H WITHOUT enabling the Win10S laptop Wi-Fi?

Again, quite unlike nospam, I don't bull****.
o I've done this conversion three times, where I take the pains to
document the steps so that others may benefit from every action I take.

To that end, here are some sequential snapshots I made of that process.
o These screenshots were made so that we could reference them, as now.

Step by step screenshots of the Win10S to Win10H conversion process:

https://www.google.com/search?q=windows%2010%20s%20mode

found

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...-in-s-mode-faq

As I recall, their process has you download and run an app from them
that permanently switches you out of S mode. The app runs temporarily
and transparently in the background. I suspect it makes a ton of
registry changes after having to change permissions on them.

I've not seen anyone get S mode unless they were using a school's
laptop. Is the computer your property, or someone else's? If the
school were smart, it would install an inventorying client on their
property that they loan out to student which reports back to them what
is on their property, and let them burn any student that violates the
setup of the school's property. If I bought a computer that includes
Windows 10 and found they dumped S mode on me with no mention before the
sale, I'd take it back (in a mess in a big carton) and demand a refund
for them selling to me what I did not agree to buy.

A search at:

https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...010%20s%20mode

found some articles describing it and how to get out of it. From those,
switching out of S mode is free.

Most computer stores around here in the Silicon Valley seem to sell S-mode
cheap laptops, e.g., Best Buy, Costco, Frys, etc.

In my experience, all other things being accounted for, S-Mode laptops are
about $50 cheaper than Win10Home laptops.

For me, that's reason enough to buy them since the conversion to Win10Home
from Win10S is trivial.

Microsoft sells that OEM SKU, to "compete with Chromebook".

But I think they sell them mostly, to annoy customers.

Annoying customers is a fine art. Only a few companies
are really good at it.

Take the per-core licensing fee Microsoft uses now, for
server stuff. Oracle-quality annoyance.
