difference between icons in the quicklaunch bar and on the desktop?
I have windows Vista, but it seems a lot like win7.
Not too important, but wanted to mention it. Is there a difference between icons in the quicklaunch bar and icons on the desktop. Can one have the target changed and not the other? I installed Forte Agent ver. 6 along with ver 1.93, and so I could tell them apart in Task Manager's list of Processes, I renamed agent.exe to agent19.exe. Using explorer. To my surprise, the icon in the Quick Launch Bar showed a target with the same new file name, agent19.exe. How cool is that! Is that normal??? It still didnt' start, but that's another issue, which I might post about eventually. But today, a few days later, I notice the icon in the quicklaunch bar has changed to a default icon, and when I open the shortcut properties and try to assign a new icon, it says it can't find %systemdrive%....agent.exe , even though the program in the target is still agent19.exe, not agent.exe. And get this, if I change the target to something else, it still wants to find the icon in agent.exe. I know I can delete the icon and copy another one in from the desktop, but I'm curious. |

Are you sure you're not talking about taskbar
icons that you've "pinned"? If you want an actual QuickLaunch in Win7 (and I assume in Vista), you have to set it up. (Instructions easily found online.) |

If using the same shortcut (path/location to the shortcut) the icon is the same for each. If the Quick Launch folder in your userprofile (\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch) has a shortcut independent of the desktop shortucut then the icon can be different (e.g. file properties/change icon) If the shortcut icon changes and can't be changed - delete and recreate the shortcuts. -- ....winston msft mvp consumer apps |
