Canon i560 Driver for Win7
Hi,
I recently installed Win7, 32 bit. I then attached my Canon i560 printer which I had been using on an XPHome box. I did not install the driver that came on CD with the printer, but I still have it available. When I go to the Devices and Printers, the i560 shows up in the category "Unspecified". If I do a properties/hardware, it shows this device is working properly. Driver details shows that no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device. If I try to print a document, the only choices in the printer selection box are FAX or Microsoft XPS Document Writer. If I ask Windows to automatically look for a driver, it says it finds none. I then went here http://tinyurl.com/3ryhck but when trying to install this driver, it said this was not a valid win32 application. Hmmm... How shall I proceed? Should I install the older XP driver and try it out? Thanks. |

You'll have to ask Canon why their Win7 drivers don't work, or for any special installation instructions. It is also possible that the file you downloaded was corrupted; downloading it again might be all you need do. On a side note, you'd have done better to mention that you had already tried to download and install the drivers from Canon, rather than provide a TinyURL link. First, having done so would preclude your getting inundated with the obvious suggestion to check with the printer's manufacturer for Win7-specific drivers. Secondly, most Internet-savvy people will not click on any TinyURL (or other such "disguised") link, as they've often used to redirect people to malicious web sites. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot |

: Big Snip Try downloading the driver module from the European site: http://software.canon-europe.com/sof...001.asp?model= I wrote to Canon, and they gave me the following instructions that worked perfectly. ----------------------- Begin Canon's Instructions: Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We sincerely regret any difficulty setting up your i560 with Windows 7. The Windows 7 printer driver for your printer is provided by Microsoft as part of Windows 7 and Windows Update and includes all the necessary files. Please note, Windows 7 contains less precached drivers than previous versions, and uses Windows update to install drivers online. Microsoft Windows Update will automatically search for the most updated drivers. If the computer is not connected to the Internet or Windows Update is not set correctly, the printer driver will not be installed. To check Windows Update settings, please follow these steps: 1. Click the 'Start' button. 2. Type 'windows update' into the Search box, and then press the Enter key on your keyboard 3. Click 'Change settings'. 4. If not already selected, select 'Install updates automatically' from the Important updates drop-down menu. 5. Click 'OK' at the bottom of the screen to register the change. 6. Click the 'Start' button again. 7. Click 'Control Panel'. 8. Select 'System and Security', and then click on 'System' 9. Click on 'Advanced System Settings'. 10. Select the 'Hardware' tab, and then click the 'Device Installation Settings' button. 11. Select 'Yes, do this automatically', and then click 'OK'. To install the printer driver, please follow these steps: 1. Confirm your computer is connected to the Internet. 2. Confirm that Windows Update is set to install updates automatically, and that Device Installations settings are set to install drivers automatically. 3. Connect your printer to your computer, then turn the device ON. 4. Click 'Start', then 'Devices and Printers'. 5. Right-click the printer's icon that did not install correctly, then select 'Troubleshoot'. 6. After you confirm that the printer driver for the device you want to use is not installed, select 'Apply this fix'. Now attempt to print a document. I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your i560. Thank you for choosing Canon. Sincerely, Sonya Technical Support Representative Special Note: Certain issues are very difficult to resolve via email. At any rate, see my reply to Dave-UK, where I state that Canon instructed me on how to correct the issue. It worked perfectly. |

It all seems so easy..... once it works correctly :-) But try to make a note of what you did and who you contacted as next month you may run into the same problem and "damn, now what did I do the other time....." Happens to me frequently :-) John B. Slocomb (johnbslocombatgmaildotcom) |
