TOUCHPAD
I am running Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite C55-A with a wired mouse
Some way I have turned of the touch pad, and when I search Windows Help it knows nothing about a touch pad. Could some one tell me how to turn it on again? |

Could some one tell me how to turn it on again? If Toshiba gave you a manual it should be in there. Otherwise browse in the muse settings, as Ken1943 said. Also check to see if there's a button near the pad to turn it on and off. -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |

If it's still there, Control Panel Mouse KenW That would be logical but this is Windows 8.1 It is in Mouse settings but in is in the Device Settings in Mouse Properties, in the Control Panel. In looking for this setting I accidentally turned off the Keyboard, I do not understand in what situation someone would want to turn off the keyboard. Another improvement in Windows 8.1 |

Could some one tell me how to turn it on again? Most laptops have a hotkey or key stroke sequence to toggle the touch pad on/off. The typical deployment is via a Function key (Hotkey) on the top row of the keyboard. Look at the icons on those keys for a symbol similar to a touch pad square. Note: The Hotkey or keystroke sequence may require use of the Fn key in combination (e.g. Fn+F5 or Fn+F9) -- ...winston msft mvp consumer apps |

Another improvement in Windows 8.1 In case some one else ends up with a dead keyboard by accidentally changing a setting. The Keyboard was not technically turned off, but only slowed way down. In Main page of PC settings there is a parameter "Filter Keys ignore brief and repeated keystrokes" Unless you are Sloth when you work on the keyboard, the keyboard will not respond if you hit the keys with any speed. This also means if you touch-type, the key board does not work http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloth |
