send email shortcut
Hi all
I have a blank email on my desktop so that if I want to write an email ready to send later on my dialup I don't have to open outlook express. All of a sudden it has changed so that when I open it it appears to be an email I have received ie. it has the address and subject lines completed instead of having the white boxes ready to fill in. I have tried remaking it but can't remember how I did it. I think I just "created" a new email in OE as though I was about to send one and then saved it but that's not working now. I'm not sure when I last used this and am wondering if the windows updates may have changed something? More likely it was me fiddling though. Any ideas how I made the blank email to start with would be appreciated. Thanks miskairal |

One of the latest Windows Update caused the problem.
14. Uninstall Outlook Express Patch 911567 (April 11, 2006) to restore unsent message functionality. Read about it here.. OEHelp http://www.oehelp.com/ -- Hope this helps. Let us know. An unsent mail has this line in the header.
X-Unsent: 1 -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to lose a war in Iraq http://webdiary.com.au/cms/?q=node/1335#comment-48641 ================================================= "miskairal" mehiding@Oz wrote in message ... In the meantime I'm curious about what you have written because X-Unsent: 1 DOES appear in the header. If this is the problem, how would I fix it? Sorry but I'm one of those people who is always asking questions (doesn't mean I remember the answer). Thanks for your time. |

If that line is present then you can edit the mail To etc. When a mail is sent that line is removed. To convert sent mail to unsent mail you edit in notepad and add the line.

Well the windows update removal doesn't seem to have worked. I can open drafts ready for editing but still not my desktop blank.eml file. I've recreated a new one but still no go even though the x-unsent: 1 bit is in there. The other odd thing I've just noticed is that Thunderbird is affected. I use it for newsgroups, just to keep them separate from email, and this reply has "lost" some quoted text and your line above appears so that there is now a horizontal scrollbar instead of dropping down a line. Any ideas? |

Because some of us use Outlook Express, top post and the signature separator
(--) does something to remove part of the text. People accuse me of this all of the time. -- Hope this helps. Let us know. Thanks Wesley.
Don't suppose you have any idea why my blank email still won't work? Is there any other way to have a shortcut for an email to be composed without opening OE? Hmmmm, I'm being really slack here and should get off to Google shouldn't I? Wesley, remove the space after the two hyphens of the signature delimiter to allow (most) newsreaders to keep text that follows your sig. Of course it's a no win situation as this will result in other NNTP users complaining that you didn't include it. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

Hi Sharon, On every post? Hi Wes~ On every post if you want to use OE and have the text below your signature to be included in quoted replies. Since you'll get complaints either way, may as well leave it as it is. With some newsreaders, the delimiter is manually added by the user to the sig block. You only have to type it once and the whole shebang gets added automatically along with the rest of the sig. Of course if you bottom posted, none of this would be a problem but we won't go there. ;^) -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

I wasn't complaining, just couldn't work out what was going on
I remember about 2 years ago asking here why some people complain about bottom and top posting and then I went away for a couple of days. When I got back it looked like war had been declared and someone thought I might have been a troll to have started the topic.
