They want to have their Ransack product title fade away. It isn't professional sounding. |

Why is the U.S. paying the entire cost of development while prices for the same drugs in other nations are much lower? 2. Manufacturers of generic drugs did not have those development costs. Why are they charging so much for generics? |

I use it for searches by file name. But for searches by file content, Search Everything is much better. So I recommend having and using both. |

Search Everything is much faster than Agent Ransack. However, Search Everything can only search by name for objects (e.g., files, folders); it does not have a capability to search for content. On the other hand, Agent Ransack can search for content. -- David E. Everything searches only for file/folder names. Agent Ransack can search for strings in the contents of a file. |

So I recommend having and using both. Count 3 on voting you got it backwards. "Everything" doesn't search inside files (no content search). It only searches on filenames. FileLocator [Lite aka Agent Ransack) *does* search on filenames or on contents. Everything builds a search index (like the Windows file indexer) so filename-only searches are very fast. FileLocator Lite has to build a cache of filenames on its first run because it doesn't occupy memory space as a background process when it is not being used, like Everything. However, if you do subsequent searches during the same session of FileLocator Lite, it will use its cache so it will then be very fast on filename lookups. I forget why but users of Everything were complaining that it was not finding all files. They could see the file using the 'dir' command in a console shell but Everything wouldn't list it. As I recall, to fix was to either reconfigure to add more search paths or running Everything under an admin-level account (or running it as a service). FileLocator Lite aka Agent Ransack does search everything (files and content). Ransack is slow on the 1st search because it has to build a filename cache; however, it is very fast on subsequent searches. Everything does not search any content and you may have to make a fix to get it to find files it othewise misses; however, it retains a database of filenames so search across separate sessions of Everything are fast. |

I still prefer Locate32 http://locate32.cogit.net/ over Everything. They pretty much work the same way - they create an index of all the files that they then parse based on search criteria - but Locate32 has - IMHO - a much better interface. Everything /looks/ simpler - you get just a simple search line (sort of like Google) but I like Locate32's multiple fields (where I can specify folders or extensions). If you remember Win9x/2K's search dialog, it's looks like that. Locate32 also lets me save presets for commonly used search criteria that I can then modify for a specific search. It also has limited (mostly to TXT files) content search. Everything's main advantage is that it has real-time updating, whereas Locate32 only updates its index at scheduled intervals. I've configured mine to update every 12 hours (and it can be triggered manually if needed). I've found both to be about the same speed; Everything might be a tad faster in indexing, but I find Locate32 faster in the searches. The improved interface of Locate32 more than makes up for the real-time update limitation. Anyway, I usually can remember where I have stashed a file I've worked on in the last 12 hours ;-) I like Agent Ransack, but its lack of indexing is really noticable when searching on network shares (its PDF iFilter isn't particularly impressive either) |
