Default Windows product activation notice.

Wish I could contact the microsoft people direct, but couldn't find a vehicle
to do so.
Any way, I bought a new computer 24 days ago. The first day used it I was
reminded by a "pop up balloon" to activate my new windows! I have been trying
every day for 24 days and I get the same message. "Windows is already
activated, Click OK to exit." I'm afraid when the 7 days are up my Windows
will self destruct!Does anyone have a solution to my dilema?

Hi Dan,

Was the activation ever excepted by MS?
If so take a look here.
Activation Trouble:
http://www.rickrogers.org/fixes.htm#Activation

If not call the phone number in the activation message.

Who did you buy it from? This sounds to me suspiciously like someone
has done a hack to evade activation. Many name machines are activated
through a different mechanism, locking to the BIOS, but then this
message should not appear at all. What you can do is force it to be
definitely not activated and then do the activation yourself; but if it
*has* been hacked that might have risks. However, the method is to run
regedit.exe. open to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\
CurrentVersion\WPAEvents
and in the right pane double click OOBETimer and very carefully change
just the first byte.
Then rename the file windows\system32\wpa.dbl get on the net and go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and Activate on the Internet (which takes 20 seconds or so)

Sorry...goofed up my previous reply.

I have the same problem. I tried the fix, got a "successful" message, but
still get the balloon which says to "activate" in 15 days. When I click the
balloon it tells me XP is already activated. Also, I searched the registry
for the mentioned keys and couldn't find them...any other ideas?

One thing to check: Does your log-on have all administrative privileges?
This happened to a friend and when she logged on as the Administrator and
clicked ok on the activation button, it stopped happening. After that, she
could log on as herself and everything was fine.

Thank you Lizzie. I apologize up front for sounding addle brained, but I
recently had surgery and my thinking is still not up to speed. Anyway here
goes:
-I'm not sure what you mean by "all" administrative privileges. I am
logged on as the administrator. The only other account is the guest account
and that is turned off.
-Also, I may be accomplishing this out of sequence, but when I reboot the
computer, I get the "keys" symbol telling to activate windows. I usually
click on that right away...is there another place to find the "activate" link
after this? As soon as I turn the computer off and reboot the problem recurs.

Thanks...hope to get this problem stopped.
