What would be a good easy to use Image posting Site, mostly for
screenshots for the Newsgroups?

Yeah, I did that too but it didn't really answer my question.

I use this one, but if you go over 1024x768, they reduce
the resolution of your picture, ruining it.

http://postimage.org/index.php?um=flash

Some of them, require setting up an account.

Whereas the one I use, requires no account.

I try to use GIF format for non-art type pictures,
to reduce waste bytes. If you want to post a picture
of Mona Lisa, that's probably best in JPG or PNG.

*******

These sites don't last forever.

Imageshack, threw away all my pictures. They are a Facebook
monkey now. You sign into the site with your Facebook account,
to use the site.

Photobucket, decided to use a pay model for bandwidth. All the
user photos were replaced with a dialog suggesting the usage
of a paid account for continued service.

Tinypic, was borderline adware at one point, and I only
visit there now using a Linux VM. So if someone posts a
Tinypic, I don't use Windows for those.

That's the nice thing about web/cloud - nothing lasts
forever.

I've used Imgur and TinyPic but there are *many* others, like PostImage.
I remember using ImageShack but don't remember why I moved to Imgur. I
probably didn't like having to log into ImageShack to use them. If I'm
uploading pics to share with everyone, I don't want to bother logging
in. My private photos stay in non-public folders in my Google Photos
and OneDrive accounts. I'd rather not have a bunch of strangers pinging
my Google or Microsoft accounts to get at the public/shared folders so I
upload the public pics to a free non-registered online photo service.

I've seen users put photos in their local Dropbox, Google Drive, or
OneDrive folders that then get synchronized to their online account.
They can then dole out a URL to the uploaded photo provided permissions
are public/shared on the folder where the photo got stored.

Remember that you are sharing your uploaded pic with EVERYONE. Edit the
pic to obliterate any personal info BEFORE uploading it. If it has
metadata, you might want to delete that, too.

It doesn't track you and definitely doesn't support the corporate
juggernauts who don't respect your privacy at all.

I keep a list because I don't want to enable
script or cookies, or sign up for an account.
If an image is posted it should be accessible
like a webpage, with no funny business.

Sites I've had no problem with:

-----------------------------------
dropboxusercontent *
imgur
postimg.org
pictr.com
uploads.im

* Dropbox is an oddball. Some links work.
Some don't. People often don't seem to know
how to use it. I've never had a Dropbox
account, but I deal with a lot of links. In
general it seems it's the "dropboxusercontent"
links that actually work. There's another type
of Dropbox link that ends with "dl=0". dl stands
for download. I'm blocked until I change it
to dl=1. Then I still can't see the image but
I can download it.

I'm not sure it's really a Dropbox problem so
much as a problem of Dropbox trying to offer
a variety of privacy settings but just making
a mess of the whole thing. I shouldn't have
to know about changing dl=0 to dl=1. The
person posting the image shouldn't even be
able to create a link that blocks download
and shouldn't have to read a manual just to
figure out how to post a link. It makes no
sense.

----------------------------------
Sites with funny business that don't allow
linking directly to the image:

photobucket.com
tinypic.com
flickr.com

---------------------------------

There was an interesting site this week in the
signs thread: fileconvoy.com
It's a file hosting site. I don't know any details,
but it allowed me to download a file from the
linked page with no funny business. Just a clear
link that worked.

Unless your camera is GPS tagging what metadata do you think shouldn't
be shared? Camera model? Lens focal length? Even my Galaxy NX
camera/tablet doesn't cram in anything I'd give a crap about anyone
knowing.

I just convert to GIF to clean things up :-) That's
for "low color" photos, like screenshots of a vanilla desktop.

Some image formats are less laden with metadata than others.
