Default Networked printer

Have desktop with printer connected (xp home). Laptop (xp
pro) networked via wireless. type into address of
Explorer: \\desktop\printer and the printer comes up. Try
to print a test page, status says "Deleting - Sent to
Printer". Reboot the desktop and it prints out the test
page. Try to add printer to network places, but says
folder (\\desktop\printer) can't be found.

Is the printer actually set to be shared?
