Updating issues
Hello,
I have Win 7 SP1 on my computer. Recently it did and update, and since then it is stuck doing the same 4 updates everytime I boot. I tried the fix update issue in windows, but it says it is fixed but it still trys to install the updates. Do I have to re-install, or is there another option? |

You did, of course, disable real time scanning by your anti virus program and real time anti malware programs before running Windows Updates or do you foolishly have them set to update automatically? Try disabling your AV before updating again. -- Alias |

In those 4 updates there may be one that is causing the problem of the others failing to install. Install each one individually. In todays 15 updates for my system there is one rogue file (KB2647753) stopping all the others installing. I installed that on it's own and then the others installed ok. -- mick |

You will find that each update is linked to a KB number. If you go to the MS Knowledge Base, and search for that number, there is normally a downloadable hotfix for that problem, which comes as a self-extracting install program. These will often install when MS Update fails. Otherwise, depending on what the updates are, it may be safe to tell MS Update to just ignore them in future. -- Tciao for Now! John. |

However, most calls I get from friends start with something like, "I had this computer problem so I reinstalled Windows, and now everything is screwed up. Where's my pictures and emails?" |

Try disabling your AV before updating again. I never do (MS Essentials), not saying you're wrong but I just never have and never had a problem. I would think if this were necessary the update dialog would issue a warning. Of course, if I had a problem I would turn of the AV as part of trouble shoot. |

At least Microsoft is aware they screwed up. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r274...-installing-it Paul That's not the one I read :-) The person at http://tinyurl.com/8t6z5mh (it's at Microsoft) suggested unhiding and uninstalling the fix & then reinstalling it from a new download at MS. So, just for fun, I obtained the downloadable copy in order to do what he suggested. However, much to my surprise, KB2647753 was no longer in my hidden updates file, so I abandoned the experiment. Another day, another bit of wasted time :-) -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |
