We are in 2015 and there is no point in using something which was invented in 2001. It is time to move on and start using what is already in Windows 8 and 8.1. In fact you should be in Windows 8.1 by now as Windows 8 was replaced by Microsoft by giving away a free upgrade to anybody who wanted one. |

When I write W8 I mean Windows 8.1 Enterprise, I don't bother to differentiate the two, 8.1 is really just 8 Sp1. And the new Task Manager sucks, you have to run Resource Monitor to see all your cores and the darn thing can't be bothered to remember which TAB you had previously opened. And according to Paul, it doesn't run at a high enough priority to let you kill tasks using 100% of your CPU. Best Regards, -- ! _\|/_ Sylvain / ! Best Regards, In the Process Tab, you can kill any task in the windows 8.1 task manager by right clicking on the program, and clicking End Task. Personal I find the Windows 8.1 task manager far superior to that in XP, as I can look at the performance tab and see the CPU, Memory, and WiFi usage. In addition any disk I am using appears in the Performance tab so I can keep track of all disk usage. There is so much more information available in the Windows 8.1 Task Manager, I can not imaging any one favoring the one in XP over the one in 8.1 |

I don't know who the Paul is but we had a drug junkie here who was hallucinated almost daily when he was around on these newsgroups. Did you have any problems of killing tasks? I haven't had any problems what so ever so far and I like using Windows 8.1 until I get Windows 10 end of this month or early next month. I have ordered 60 Optiplex machines for my department from DELL and the shipment will take place end of this month when they start rolling out Windows 10. |

Even my keyboard looked like it had stopped working, as the caps-lock test failed. But eventually I got a control-alt-delete into the machine. I was using PerfectDisk and had just opened Firefox at the time. I'd really like a decent Task Manager, that always responds as it should. Paul |

Bring back the old Task Manager in W8

Just stumbled on this: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-resto...-in-windows-8/ Some folks prefer MORE information than Task Manager provides (for any Microsoft version). For example, you can set an option in SysInternals' Process Explorer to have it replace the Task Manager. However, while Task Manager has tabs for Performance (to see CPU and memory usage), you have to use the View - System Information menu. There is a toolbar that shows some info but the details are in the other view. With the VirusTotal plug-in, both Process Explorer and Autoruns from SysInternals will highlight processes or startup items that fail one of the AV scanners that VirusTotal uses. No, not every program file and process gets scanned. Instead the hash of the file is sent to VirusTotal to see if the file has already been scanned. No point in re-scanning a file that hasn't changed. AutoRuns will also highlight startup programs that have no Description and a blank Author. |
