Default Why does Settings work so badly

Why does Settings work so badly, at least it seems it does to me.

1) It seems to take more time to start any function in Win10 Settings
than any other program. I mean all the functions that start with a big
light blue screen and a gear in the middle of it. Am I right, do they
start slowly?

2) AFAICT, you can only have one instance of Settings running at once.
So if you're trying check on windows update you can't check on taskbar
settings or any of the other many things in Settings. What was the
point of windows if not to be able to go back and forth easily from one
task to another?

**At first I thought MS apps were also bound up in this problem but it
seems to have its own screen.

Actually you can 'check for updates' and then do other things and come
back without issues. IIRC.

But yes, try to use the storage thing to clear space and then go some
place else it has to be started all over again.

It's kinda like one hand doesn't know what the other is doing.

Plus Microsoft has yet to migrate all settings available under the
Control Panel into their Settings app. Sometimes you still have to use
control.exe to get at settings that are not yet available in their
Settings app. So, you have to use both Settings and Control Panel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14y4eMJ54tY

I don't know why (probably dumbing down to mobile device screens), but
in the 1903 I noticed the Settings dialogs become more text versus
before they were more graphical.

Before 1903, Settings app had a main screen similar to Control Panel's
layout. Picking a category showed a left panel with selections and a
right panel showing the options for the currently selected subcategory.
See pics at:

After 1903, the main panel has disappeared, and you get a scrollable
columnar text listing. When you pick a category, you get another
columnar text listing. Instead of a left panel of categories, you get
hotlinks to other pages, so you bounce around in multiple nested pages
instead of seeing some tracking as to how you got there. It has become
even more difficult to navigate the groups of settings in the Settings
app after upgrading to the 1903 build. See pics at:

Reminds me of an ancient text-only computer game called Zork where you
gave it instructions, like walk forward 20 steps, turn right, open door
and had to visualize in your head to figure out to where you were
navigating.

Problem was that you might forget where you where or how you got there
to know how to get back. That's what Microsoft did the Settings app in
the 1903 build. They should dump their Settings app, especially after
making it so much more difficult to navigate, and move any settings it
has that are not in the Control Panel wizards and go back to using the
Control Panel app (control.exe).

Both my wife and I are on 1903 and neither of us have this settings
menu! And we're up to day as of a week or so ago (2nd Tues.).

I even have the insider copy and I don't see that. Are you sure it's
not some display option you chose?

Boy you have to shrink the horizontal width a lot. I've got mine as a
small window but just not small enough. Actually that's kinda nice.
I like the more compact text view.

The items in the Settings wheel window are always menu
items. There's just wacko looking menu items :-/

It's as close to a menu as a SmartPhone OS can manage.

Resize the width, makes it more obvious. This is with
a light theme, 1903.

So that's what they did. I have never resized the Settings window
either in 1809 or 1903. I simply used what they chose to present. It
never even dawned on me that I could resize that window. Duh! Thanks
for that tip. Once I resized (enlarged) the Settings app's window (from
THEIR default size) then I got the old display.

I was using the same screen resolution in 1809 as in 1903, so I don't
know why they changed the default size of the Settings app to be smaller
in my fresh install of 1903.
