I think Maps is a favored technology and product of Google's, and it
depends on the maps being as correct as possible, so I'm not surprised
they pay some attention to user feedback.

Their Usenet/Groups product does them little good, and I suspect they
regard it as an albatross around their neck. Not surprised they ignore
it and put their manpower to more lucrative uses.

On 27 Jun 2018 17:49:14 GMT, Frank Slootweg wrote:

This suggests that you've seen the information you got from Jim in
news.software.readers.

Did you contact Google in the way he pointed to?

[N.B. I'm responding here, as not to 'pollute' the n.s.r thread.]

When I saw that "Jim" note, I felt like repeating my classic "racist"
chant, since that "Jim" was almost certainly one of the trolls from this
newsgroup:
From: Jim
Organization: Aioe.org NNTP Server

But then I simply ignored his trollish behavior, and took note of his
suggestion even as he showed he was a racist moron in his post.

The posters to n.s.r are generally sane, but the a.f.n group has been
infested by trolls for years, making it veritably useless - except - except
some of the good news admins (like Steve Crook & Wolfgang, aka Ray Banana)
monitor it.

It was risky to include a.f.n because the Snit-like trolls have made it
their warren for so many years that I can't count; hence I knew that only
one in 100 posts would be useful because that newsgroup is a *perfect*
example of what happens to a ng when the trolls infest it en masse.

I don't expect anything better than that one suggestion to result, but it
may still be worth the attempt if one of the monitoring nntp-server admins
responds - but I don't plan on "working" the thread because the trolls,
like Jim, love "fresh meat" to play with.

While this "Jim" is a seemingly brand-new character, the difference between
those long-standing "professional trolls" on a.f.n and the amateurs like
nospam and Frank Slootweg and Char Jackson and Wolf K, is that those old
pros have long ago proven they lack even the morsel of decency that I
credit the amateur trolls on this ng with.

It is funny though, that this "Jim" character (who is likely one of the
trolls here), thinks he's an utter genius for figuring out what I patently
said in the OP, which is who I was.

It's amazing how *low* on the DK scale this Jim guy is, in self assessing
his skillset, and then gleefully proclaiming to be a genius in figuring out
the obvious (and in publicly "outing" me)... which is so very much like
Slootweg and Char Jackson and some of the others (not nospam since he's
slightly above making that claim of utter genius).

So almost certainly, IMHO, this so-called new guy "Jim", is one of the
self-proclaimed geniuses on this ng.

Yup.

Even though the nospam-like trolls constantly condemn anyone who is trying
to get something accomplished, people like nospam feel that it's much more
efficient for him to "just guess" (which is what he does all the time).

In my case, it's extremely clear that, about two years ago, a single
complaint resulted in a volunteer working the issue (which is why you saw a
handful of updates) with the result that the issue was resolved in about a
month and a half based on that single complaint.

That single complaint had an online location (as I recall) where the status
and repartee with the "volunteer" could be seen.

At some point, I was notified that Google *changed* methods, which must be
to the current method, which, AFAIK, may or may not use the "volunteers" to
back it up.

To that point, I don't see any location (yet anyway) for my new complaint
to be archived for public view, as the old complaint was.

At this point, there's nothing for me to do on the new complaint, so, I'll
sit tight and if I remember, I'll try to update this thread in a month and
a half or so, letting folks know what happened (as I always strive to
publish the solution to any problem).

Back to the original goal, we still haven't found anyone on this ng (except
the trolls) who have been *successful* at archiving newsgroups on Google
Groups that aren't currently archived.

If you (plural "you", meaning everyone who is not a troll) have
purposefully helpful suggestions for how to accomplish that worthy goal,
that's what this thread is for.

I would agree since they fixed the routing errors I gave them in a short
period of time.

They stopped routing vehicles and bicycles on the private roads and paths.

It's odd that I didn't notice at the time (two years ago) that pedestrians
are still routed, but maybe they changed something in the interim as I
would have thought I would have checked that.

Nonetheless, I'll report back my success, hopefully, in a couple of months,
if Google fixes the routing of pedestrians onto private property also.

BTW, I can easily see *why* Google routes pedestrians that way, as the
alternative is many times longer (probably three or four times longer),
which is why it's so easy to test as there are no other logical
alternatives if you ignore the fact the property that google is routing
pedestrians over is private.

Their Usenet/Groups product does them little good, and I suspect they
regard it as an albatross around their neck. Not surprised they ignore
it and put their manpower to more lucrative uses.

This is also agreed in that I don't even think they get *advertising*
revenue out of Google Groups, do they?

Google may have bought DejaNews just to ensure nobody else did it, since
certainly pcbanter is getting advertising revenue out of archiving this
Usenet newsgroup, for example.

What always amazed me is that the "search" on Google groups sucks compared
to the search on Google.com (IMHO), where, you'd think, the algorithms
don't need to be all that different, and which are, patently simpler.

And yet, somestimes I can't find some of my own posts in the Google search
on http://tinyurl.com/windowsxp-general where I *know* the keywords.

Anyway, I'm still seeking someone here (not just the nospam-like trolls who
just guess at everything) who has been successful getting Google to archive
a newsgroup.

Just as I could give someone advice for fixing a map given that I've
clearly been successful at it (despite Char Jackson & nospam trolling that
the method I used isn't efficient) - I'm hoping to find just one person on
this entire newsgroupo who knows what he's talking about when he posts
advice for how to get the job done successfully.

I read somewhere that you were arranging a potluck picnic. Commendable.

Also for arranging the picnic, right? Let's not forget about that.

Hehhehheh ... a fool easily misinterprets consistent strategy.

You forget there is a strategic and tactical design to all questions.

For the strategic design, you probably didn't notice I ended each post with
something like this (which I'll pull verbatim out of my last post):
"Anyway, I'm still seeking someone here... who has been successful
getting Google to archive a newsgroup."

That I do that every time (once in a while I might forget) reminds you
chit-chatters that the thread has a question in the title and that's what
the thread is intended, stratetically, to answer.

For my tactical design, you'll note that you are one of the worst offenders
when it comes to being less than useful on Usenet, which you're well aware
of since you have absolutely no intention to be helpful.

However ... you'll note I'm very consistent in my strategy & tactics.

While I knew your chitchat input was worthless toward the end goal, my goal
is also to salvage some of the remaining scraps of decency that is left in
the non-Snit-like trolls to achieve the end goal.

Hence, I followed my consistently applied maxim to always respond in kind
to the intent and tone of each post.

Since your chit-chat post was of the "helpful" intent and tone, I
*mirrored* your tone.

*Then you bounced back, predictably, with your idiotic chit-chat comment!*

Hehhehheh... all you see from me is consistency.
a. Consistency in strategy
b. Consistency in tactics

*You misinterpreted consistency to fit your own Usenet-amusement model!*

To wit, you simply misinterpreted the fact that I followed my own stated
strategy and tactics as a "win" for you on the chit-chat model, but you'd
be wrong thinking that because this is a thread that I authored (which
means I care about the outcome).

Hence, that makes *this thread* a thread I care about - that it comes to an
answer, and for that, I need to parry the idle chit-chatters and focus
everyone, including those who chit-chat merely for their Usenet amusement,
on the overall question.

You have already forgotten, it seems, that your chit-chat model is 99% in
threads you didn't author; hence you don't have anything invested in the
outcome.

I have a vested interested in the outcome of this thread, which is why I
clearly capped each of the idle banter posts with, in essence, something
like the following strategically placed "focus" line (which you know to be
fact!):

The fact is that none of you chit-chatters can provide *any* value on the
difficult question posed in this thread. And yet, you'll notice I always
very consistently respond to all valid input mirroring the tone & intent.

Hence, I ended each of your idle chit-chat responses with a summary to the
effect of...

* Enough of this idle worthless banal chit chat which amuses you so.*
*What we need is help on the process to get Google to archive this ng!*

Jeez, just spent e week in the the hospital with a bad gallbladder

So naturally I looked here and sure enough, the arlen holder thing was

Hi Paul,

I just finished writing the first rough draft of about three score
tutorials for setting up Windows 10 from scratch, so, I'll move off the
troll-shaming attempt to improve this ng's SNR by reigning in the trolls
like Char Jackson, Nil, Diesel, nospam, Snit, Slootweg, Sam Hill, etc., -
so that I can get back to working on advancing solutions to Windows
technical problem - often to the tune of a few a day.

BTW, I didn't forget that you helped me in a.o.l ng ... I just haven't
gotten back to wiping out that Ubuntu dual boot to reinstall so that the
tutorial will be accurate from scratch for linking iOS to Windows far
better than anyone here normally can do with the iTunes abomination (or
just USB drivers).

Since the rough draft of the first 60 steps to setting up Windows was
completed this week, I'm moving on to writing the 100 or so tutorials for
installing each specific piece if useful software on Windows.

To that end, I'll post a tutorial or two soon, as I've proceeded to
installing the software (now that the first 60 steps of setting up Windows
10 are done).

Each software has its own particular quirks. For example, vim has those
dastardly turd files and control-q sequences ... so I think I'll clean up
my tutorial on setting up VIM freeware and post it to help others (and to
ask for improvement advice, since I'm always honing my skills, as are you).

Here's a list of the first 60 steps I did on a couple of Win10 desktops, if
you're interested (each of which has a tutorial that explains the tasks):

Please don't. All they do is draw flames and you can't help yourself in
responding.

Why not create yourself a GitHub.com (or similar) account and store your
tutorials as versioned files in a standard repository? They will then be:
-in a permanent place,
-searchable by others (much better than non-indexed Usenet archives),
-always up to date
-maintain a history
-easy, for those who want, to constructively help you hone your skills.

Public Git repositories are great places to build a community around a
common need.
