Is a firewire card necessary or can I use something like the Adaptec VideoOh!

Yes firewire is essential for cpaturing from a camcorder in Movie maker. You can also capture through other routes but those routes might have other capture software best suited for them. Adaptec VideOh is as far I understand is a direct capture to DVD solution with hardware encoding capability?
