An Apple computer does not NEED such an AV product. You KNOW that. Why haven't folk like you made moves to remove it from the market place? clearly trolling. |

wrote: No other AV has found malware on the AOL disk! imagine that. I'm trying my best to understand, especially when endeavouring to look at things simply like FromTheRafters explained. you're not trying at all, not that it matters, since it's impossible for you to understand anything. If there *IS* nothing untoward - physically on the disk - how could ClamXav find it? How did *I* find such files and send them to Virus Total if they didn't exist?? you didn't find 'such files'. you don't even know what to look for. Is there some way I can examine what is ACTUALLY on the disk? insert it and have a look. duh. The disk is in my Apple Superdive and an icon is showing up on my desktop. Sadly, I do not know (cannot remember?) *HOW* to look at the files on the disk. then you're too stupid to own a computer. a bigger problem is if you don't know how to 'look at the files', how could you possibly 'find such files and send them to virus total', as you previously claimed, just a few lines above? answer: you're lying (again), and not doing a very good job of it either. Be nice for once. Please explain how to to this. TIA no. |

You are wrong, yet again, 'nospam' ClamXav told me that it had detected malware on my AOL disk. In the same sense as it can tell you the disk is clean. That is to say a "guess" made by the engine. Best to think of them as saying "I think I found such and such malware" or "I think the disk has no malware because I didn't find any". OK - Thanks It doesn't sound quite as trustworthy with the "I think" part there though, and they want to exude confidence, so they leave that part out. :-) We all agree that it was impossible for Ramnit to be on my AOL DVD. So where WERE the files it detected? On the disk, they're still there, they just were being mistaken for a Ramnit remnant(s) by that particular AV. No other AV has found malware on the AOL disk! Is there some way I can examine what is ACTUALLY on the disk? Yes, but it would not be easy for you to do. You'll no doubt take a look at what ClamXav said about my old computer (in my response to Apd) I might, I skipped it before as it was a TL;DR issue. Checked again - still too long. Was there a relevant part? Have a great day, FTR. I hope your health problems are not too bad. Leveling off it seems, it is a roller coaster. |

You'd might be surprised at the amount of "malware" detections you get from the likes of AVG, Avast and others. The files are harmless, but the phone-out routines in the files are detected by heuristics and if that particular file hash is not whitelisted, it gets detected. Sorry, I didn't mean "you" would be surprised. I mean someone who had this explained to him over and over again and then "forgets" might be surprised. Would Avast itself be detected as malware if it wasn't whitelisted? 1)It uploads user files and personal information 2) It intercepts secure connections 3) It has root access. 4) It makes changes to system files What do you think?
