Delete restore partition help please...
Running XP on a drive with a hidden partition and a C and D drive. I want
to delete the contents of the hidden partition and reclaim that space in the C drive. I am either upgrading to Vista or doing a fresh install and the original XP back up is in the hiddenpartition . I have it on DVD as well so it is now going to be redundant. Thanks for your help. I have partition Magic 7 and there is a combine feature there but I am unclear as to its appropriateness for this task. |

I am wondering if a fresh Vista install will present me with an fdisk type
screen to allow me to combine the hidden partition with C and leave D alone. Or will I need to copy D onto a DVD and then do a repartition of the entire drive at once ? We're all waiting on manufacturers to write drivers for Vista. At best, most
are still beta. Why anyone would purchase Vista now for an XP machine is beyond me. "IDAssociatesLLC" wrote in message ... Running XP on a drive with a hidden partition and a C and D drive. Before you blow up your restore partition make sure your DVD can actually reinstall XP. Personally, I'd leave the restore partition in place. You bought a computer from a company that was too cheap to include a real XP installation CD. How accommodating do you think they're going to be when you have to contact them because you lost your DVD or it's scratched? When it comes to computers, "redundant" isn't a bad idea. Also, do some research before you upgrade to Vista. I think you're going to find that in order to use an upgrade version you have to start the installation from within XP. Good luck Nepatsfan |

I have a full version of XP Pro on CD + Vista Ultimate upgrade ( I used a
$150 coupon on Amazon ) so it seemed to make sense to give it a shot. I plan on waiting a month or so while all vendors carch up. MS advised me that an upgrade Vista disk plus an original XP will do a full fresh install. Any more thoughts on how I can dump the restore partition now ? "Nepatsfan" wrote in message ... The Vista upgrade must be started from within the running XP install. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" MS-MVP Windows - Shell/User |

Boot with your Partition Magic floppy disc set. Delete the partition you
don't want (the hidden partition). Resize the partition you are keeping. This will expand that partition to include the space left when you deleted the hidden partition. Click OK and when finished remove the floppy and reboot. -- Harry Ohrn MS MVP [Shell\User] www.webtree.ca/windowsxp "IDAssociatesLLC" wrote in message ... Use Partition Magic. Don't merge the partitions. Just delete the offending
partition and resize the partition (C) to utilize all the space left over when you deleted the hidden partition. -- Harry Ohrn MS MVP [Shell\User] www.webtree.ca/windowsxp "IDAssociatesLLC" wrote in message ... Thank You !
I did it first on a cloned drive and all was well so I went for the drive currently in use ( and the proposed Vista drive ). Then went for the active drive. It sat at 44% for an uncomfortable amount of time but finally finished. Thanks again ! "Harry Ohrn" wrote in message ... Use Partition Magic. Don't merge the partitions.
