My WindowsXP has the blaster virus. I cannot maintain
enough time on the internet to get the security patch
before the virus shuts me down. What do I do about that?
I live in Phoenix. Is there a number I can call to get
step by step instructions? I am working from my old
computer which is connected to the internet now. It is a
Windows 95 system, is not infected, but has no memory to
get instructions, etc. I can only send and receive these
messages to find out how to fix my XP.

If your computer is constantly rebooting, quickly go to:
Start Run and type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.

Then turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:

You have an unwelcome visitor known as the WM32 Blaster/Lovsan worm.
It entered your computer through your internet connection because the =
"firewall"
was not properly enabled and essential critical updates were not =
installed from
the Windows Update website. For instructions on fixing the problem, =
visit:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_msblast.htm and follow
the instructions.=20

After fixing the problem, visit the following web sites:

Essential Security Tools for Home Office Users

Last, but not least, consider purchasing and installing a comprehensive
internet security package, such as:

Norton Internet Security 2003
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/nis_pe/

-- Includes Norton AntiVirus 2003
-- Includes Norton Personal Firewall
-- Automatically updates itself
-- Includes prevention of annoying web pop-ups
-- Includes Parental Controls
-- All in one, easy-to-install & manage package

Try this ...

As soon as your computer reboots and Windows loads, click Start, then Run.
In the box, type the following:

shutdown -a (then click OK)

This should buy you time to get your fixes and updates installed.

Here is an excellent site with detailed instructions and links to patches:
