Default dhcp delay

This is most likely caused by a setting related to the spanning tree
protocol (STP) on the switch you're connecting to. If it's a Cisco switch,
I'd say that is definitely the reason.

Look for a setting called "portfast".

Cheers

After every boot, there is a 15-30 seconds delay before my PC gets an
address from DHCP. Any ideas?

Either that or XP can't obtain a DHCP address from your ISP.

We do have Cisco switches. The spanning tree is enabled on the ports.
Yesterday the network dept. enabled portfast on my ports. Same issue..even
it improved the time it took the get the IP.. but still delay of 10-15
seconds.

Portfast is the setting that's introducing the delay.

Disable it from the switch that the PC is plugged into and the delay should
be gone.
