I am hacked off with the inability of the worlds premier software developers.
Made a whole heap of wonga to boot! If I didn't have a conscience I would do
well to take some advice from this company. Only difference being I would have cleared off when I made my first $billion and not stuck around trying to squeeze the likes of you and I for another few bucks "Willit" wrote in message ... Welcome to the world of MS. They just hid it before. -----Original Message----- I have been an ardent follower of Microsoft's os products since it's inception, always upgrading to the newest version as soon as or shortly after it hits the market. But now I am becoming disallusioned with the whole ball game. Every day there is a fix, patch, security update, bug, system error, incompatibility problem, virus, hack attack etc etc. I live in a part of the UK that does not yet offer broadband connection, therefore everything is that much slower, I find that I spend more time trying to protect my business data than actually trying to run my business. Downloads of patches, fixes, virus definitions etc take ages. Please tell me if there is an alternative, I need to make money, not give it away. . |

Why not hire a IT director ( a person or company). That's what we do. We
keep you're computers updated, patched, secured, and keep the information flowing. We worry about the computers and systems so you don't have to and can concentrate on running your business. If the company budget can't handle a full time IT Director and his accompaning full time pay, then you could hire someone like me who runs a IT/Tech Support company. (sorry I'm in the states). Companies contract me to come in once a week or month to do anything that the computers or users need, like patches, updating, installing programs, networks, training, fixing, troubleshooting, security evaluations, etc.... Contracting someone to do this stuff for you will save you thousands compared to a full time person and let you worry about making money. "Scuzzy" wrote in message ... Yes, but in reality every other company is as bad or worse than Microsoft. All software has bugs unless it is tested well, and that is unlikely. Better testing products are helping to change this, but business doesn't want to pay for quality. Kind of like what you are complaining about. So, you can try Linux. It seems to be pretty good, has less KNOWN security issues, and is actually not to difficult to install now. On the other hand, if you are really spending as much time as you say, count on about 5 times as much with a Linux system. Microsoft OSes can be managed by monkeys, as is evident in a lot of companies. Linux requires actual intelligence, as it makes no effort to simplify things for the average user as does MS. |

Let alone the despatch of goods, insurance, accounts, refunds, etc etc, I'm not alone in the world of the small businessman (sounds sexist) businsswoman but I am resisting taking on anyone else at the moment. I just feel that MS lets the small buisiness down in many areas. Corporates can afford to employ IT staff, and IT is a specialised area that most probably even the MD or Chairman doesn't have a clue about and therefore the IT director/manager whatever, is a highly paid individual. The small businessman could not afford such a luxury and therefore will die out unless he/she can add the IT monitoring element to thier business. Why do I work so hard when I know that the wolves will get me in the end? Your argument holds no water. Either you are lying about how much time you spend, or you are in a technical field. Running a mom and pop business does not require the use of technology as you state. What it does require is third party applications like Quick Books, which of course is not at all MS's fault. If you are offering technical services, one reason to need the knowledge you speak of, then you are the one who is at fault for not knowing your business. |

If you're really hacked of at the world's (read...MS), you
should take a few college math and computer courses and become the world's best programmer.
