If the hard drive is all that your replacing you shouldn't need to call
Microsoft.

I am an IT tech. in a medium size busniess. I am in
charge of installing XP in the machines. When a hard
drive crashes on a computer that has already been
activated, what do i do. Do i have to call Microsoft
every time a hard drive crashes.

Default product key

I couldn't upgrade my windows xp because I didn't know
where to put the product key code in. I tried asking
where to insert it once before. The response was to
insert it when they ask you too when your about to
download the upgrades. They never asked once. Whenever I
try to upgrade xp, It just says that you need a product
key. I have it, but I can't put it in because I don't
know where to put it in. Can someone please help. I would
really appreciate it. I can't play some of the games that
I own because I don't have the upgrades.
Thank you for reading my question and I hope you respond.

Where are you trying to do this "upgrade"? Windows Update? Are you trying
to install Service Pack 1??
